Would you ever date a alcoholic? I would never. Not so bad if got a BIT carried away with social drinking WHEN stressed and then stopped but I would still worry about that.

The last 1000 years they do not have a good track record in relationships.
I rarely ever drink and I have tried dating a few alcoholics in my time , but I couldn't put up with the craziness and drama. Some are worse alcoholics than others, still I'd rather have a gf who had control of her life.

My adoptive parents weren't but the roomers in the house were...was scary growing up with folks fighting and ambulances coming around to collect drunk folks at the bottom of the stairs with gashes on their bodies. Sorry to hear about your dad...it was probably very rough on you.

He stopped drinking when I was about thirty years old, little to late for me, but I believe I turned out about average. I'm not Superman, but I'm not Charles Manson neither.

Yes, late but he stopped so that's a good thing for him. I'm sure he did the best he could under the circumstances and you've turned out perfectly fine.

Yeah I think I would date an alcoholic , for humanity's sake as been said already but similarly I don't think I'd go the distance from dating to relationship .Instead I'd try pointing her in the direction of some treatment .

It usually take special people to stay calm and stay focused with stress of emergencies(all going n around and emotions, sirens etc). The work you do...or maybe did... said something about you isn't just ordinary.
No, I wouldn't date an alchoholic that is curently drinking, or one that has very recently quit. I might be friends with someone in that situation, but not date.
Hell, I married one. 12 years and 2 sons later I about had it. My mother was an alcoholic although she went through dry phases and she never abandoned us. I'm a very experienced Co-Dependant. Some one once told me I'm attracted to addictive types, I think there's a lot of truth in that. So yeah I would date an alcy.
Not all become angry and some just silly etc. But my mom's Dad would wake them up in the middle of the night to give them(the kids) treats when he got home from drinking. They would feel scared so ate the stuff and also they got few treats so willingly ate late at night. Then... if a few got chubby-kinda- he insulted them.

Hiya Ooby Only you have the ability to turn this co-dependancy thing around...why beat yourself up.
I know am an alcoholic woman, who was pregnant, and she married the guy. After she gave birth to the girl, finally she broke up with the guy in the last 5 years. So she take care of the girl around 10 years old. She would drink on Saturday and Sunday, as other days she need work to earn some money. The reason why the guy left, when she was angry, she smashed his two ribs with a chair. and still a lot time, she is earger to get a drink. And the guy is not that promising, but seems to be better than the woman.
The woman can earn around 1200pounds per month, and when the guy are capable to earn money, he pays the school fee for the daughter and living expenses of the little girl. He refused to live with the woman since 5 years. And the woman does not know to save some money aside for the little girl and her own future. When the guy was out of job for a year, the life situation was a mess. The guy could not afford to pay the school fees, and could not afford to pay their rental of a 1bedroom apartment. So finally the woman together with her daughter moved out of the apartment. Good is the woman's friend offered a room for them to stay temperarily. And another year is coming, school fees cost around 12000pounds per year.No money for the apartment rental. But even stayed in the friend's apartment, the woman said she need take taxi to go to work and send her daughter to school instead of taking buses. Not to mention, how long the friend will take in the the mother and daughter.

The 10 year little girl one time I saw her, said she need save some money. I think it is a painful unstable life with an alcoholic mother. No money to pay school, no money to pay a room.
