happy369: oh really Rapunzel
Seriously.
I find my shyness debilitating at times.
Bearing in mind, shyness does not necessarily equate to lacking in self-confidence. My best friend is socially very confident, but lacks self-confidence. I struggle with certain social situations regularly, but have a much greater inner confidence than she does.

itsimpossible: yep you got me. shy huh?
Yes, I'm shy.
Using the internet is a different social interface - it cuts out a lot of the issues which contribute to my shyness, or social anxiety.
For example, I don't like noisy environments especially with groups of people. They make me anxious because I'm partially dependent upon lip-reading.
When chatting with a group, people tend to look at everyone around them to include the group. As people turn away, I miss big chunks of the conversation and have to rely upon watching other people's reactions (okay, its time time to laugh...now!) rather than genuinely socialising.
On the internet, I don't have to deal with as many triggers for my shyness and so you get to see more of the inner confidence usually reserved for closer friends.
