Conrad73: six Mass-shootings in Germany with it's strict Firearms-Code? Boggles the mind! and only two in Switzerland with it's rather loose Code? Your Arithmetic doesn't hold water! There are other factors involved.obviously, which are not included in your Stats! Besides,no one forces you to own a Firearm,so why do you want to force to give up mine!

nokundi: ...partial reasoning, sometimes it is just a beating up, this you survive easily, a weapon is somehow final
for all these paranoid negativ thinkers who want to have firearms, i advice a good pepperspray, reaches nearly 10 meters.
Countries are different and I can tell you you have not idea how things are in my place.
I do wish there where not arms whatsoever but criminals do not understand that.
I do carry a pepper spray though. Paranoial I am not Negative thinker I am not Want to have fire arms I do not want to but I need to
From a few blocks of my working place there has been: A kidnapping of a young man = death. A kidnapping of a little girl = recovered. Heads of several young boys Several droped beaten bodies whom had died short after. Shootings. (not to say other events around)
Do you think that a pepper spray will stop the criminals responsible for the above???

It depends what country you live in, maybe even the neighbourhood. Handguns or auto guns are not allowed privately. Police dont even carry handguns. They can access them if required, but they certainly dont patrol with them. Rifles etc can be owned with a license. It works here, no major shootings etc,
Poor america,:-(, lets go back in time where everyone carried a colt. The achievements of civilisation are removed. Democrathy,human-rights were slowly removed and it seems that the inhabitans wants it that way. Anxiety and Depression Association of America finds that people suffering from anxiety disorders are up to five times more likely to go to the doctor in general and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than others.
4. Small arms ownership. The Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva ranks the U.S. number one in both the total number of civilian firearms and in per capita ownership of small firearms, beating out recent war zones like Yemen, Serbia and Iraq.
In fact, we may even have more guns in the U.S. than we have people: The rate of private gun ownership in the U.S. was tabulated at 101.05 firearms per 100 individuals in one study. According to a recent report on CNN, Americans own as many as one-third of the guns in the entire world. Research also shows that while the number of households with guns has declined, current gun owners are stockpiling more guns. Part of this concentration seems to stem from the fact that guns are primarily marketed to people who already own guns.
A related statistic: In the U.S., the gun-related murder rate is the second highest in the developed world. Only Mexico, where the ongoing drug war expands the number, has us beat.

Glitch101: I've taken that on board Conrad, but what about " Thou shalt not Kill"
Do they get a free pass.
actually the original reads,"Thou shalt not murder"! But the Politicians and Powers that Be made sure it was turned to,"Thou shalt not kill"! How are you going to govern, and maybe maim or kill a Citizen who believes he has the Right to defend hi own Life by any means necessary? But to punish me and disarm me for the Crimes committed by others is a slap in the face of Justice!
"Intentional homicide rate per year per 100,000 inhabitants. The reliability of underlying national murder rate data may vary. The legal definition of "intentional homicide" differs among countries. Intentional homicide may or may not include infanticide, assisted suicide or euthanasia.
Intentional homicide demographics are affected by changes in trauma care, leading to changed lethality of violent assaults, so the intentional homicide rate may not necessarily indicate the overall level of societal violence. They may also be underreported for political reasons. Another problem for the comparability of the following figures is that some data may include attempts. In general the values in these lists should not include attempts except when mentioned otherwise.
A study undertaken by the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development estimated that there were approximately 490,000 intentional homicides in 2004. The study estimated that the global rate was 7.6 intentional homicides per 100,000 inhabitants for 2004. For the year 2010 UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) made a similar study. It presumed a number of 468,000 intentional homicides for this year. That would correspond to a worldwide rate of 6.9.
Northern, Southern, Western Europe Murder rate 3.9 Northern, Southern, Western Europe count 4953
Some European nations under-report crime statistics giving its inhabitants a false sense of security. Also, due to the absence of transparence and privacy laws, it impossible to get information from law enforcement agencies. When you have in some EU countries 4 police officers patrolling the streets, you know there is a definite problem. In the US, they have 2 patrolling the streets. In the US, anyone can access police reports and crime yearly statistics. Also, the UN statistics do not break down the murder rate by lawful owners of firearms or the criminal element. In the EU, criminals do not bother with the laws prohibiting firearms, they have it. Giving the societal tensions and the ease of demonstrations turning to riots, the governments have a restriction on all firearms, including hunting shotguns and rifles.
You have to know the US to talk about the subject and not comparing apples with oranges. Each country has its own restrictions and laws and that's the way it should be. In fact, they had studies in the US where the crime rate was lower when some States allows its citizens to have CCW more accessible.

MadBushpig: Another interesting controversial topic, it would be interesting to see your views on this.
There's nothing controversial about it at all. The Founding Fathers gave that right to the American people in the 2nd Amendment because they knew what would happen in later years..like NOW.
Tyrants always want gun control. If you look at history, you will see that genocides have occurred when the people's right to keep and bear arms has been taken away. It happened in the Soviet Union and Ukraine. Do you not think that it would happen in the USA?
