Hi everyone :D Firstly, I wanna say "Happy new year" to everyone here because I'm writing this poll on January 1st :P so, if u read this, u are having a greeting from Vietnam :P Going directly to the topic, I'm Vietnamese and this year I'm gonna be 20 this year 2014. I'm now here to make more friends with people from different places and find some people who are good and kind to help me improve my English :P I'm a quite shy person though :P By the way, I wonder how many people wanna contact me? :P I'm not really good at English speaking to understand all of what u say because I'm not a native speaker :P. but at least, in the case I dont understand, I think I can be a good listener :P Of course, if u wanna know more about our culture or Vietnamese language, I'll help u in return. I sincerely thanks for u to spend ur time reading this message :). Thank u so much.
From reading your post I don't think you need much help writing English because it reads better than what many people, who were born in the US, UK, etc are capable of writing. Unless of course you're using a translator program. I believe the best way to learn to "speak" English is to immerse yourself in an English speaking country which may be rather dificult for practical reasons. Watching English language films with sub titles might help. It would also be very helpful to work with someone who speaks both languages fluently. Good luck my dear.

I have seen where people posted on the forums and said it helped them with their English. I know in my everyday life I have a few friends who do not speak English regularly. I have found when I communicate with them it is helpful for me to not use a lot of American slang words. I wish you the best

Online translating services are terrible and should be avoided at all costs. Immersion by means of living in an English speaking country is a great method of improving fluency I agree if for a lengthy period of time, but not possible for many people as you say.
Watching tv with subtitles is fantastic for those with a good level of English to learn colloquial expressions, but for those who don't it simply becomes a reading exercise. Reading the subtitles in their own language that is!

Hi again. Watching tv can be a great help but you must use English subtitles not those of your native language. If you have subtitles in your own language then as I said previously you will eventually stop listening and simply read. I know this is true having worked as a language teacher and when I've tried to learn other languages myself when living abroad by watching tv. Watch short half hour programmes, not lengthy films which will bore or tire you, or log on to the bbc learning english website which I'm sure will help immensely.

Hi there! I learned watching Sesame Street and not talking to a single Spanish soul for over a year. used to bring a note book and write everything in it. Now i'm fluent but can't write half the words.
