well IMO women has the advantage...reason being we can go from one extreme to another...tailored suits to shorts and flip flops...and everywhere in between...basically either a guys is going to be totally decked out or very casual, no in between...but as far as fabric goes, pretty even...but design, definitely women
If you want something different, you can go looking for it.
If you look in high street shops, it's all a bit samey, cheap, tacky and boring for men and women. It's called fashion, or trend.
You often have to go quite upmarket to get decent fabrics in women's clothing, unless you charity shop and ebay hunt to keep the costs down.
I have a lot of upmarket, alternative and interesting clothes in natural fabrics (cotton, silk, linen, cashmere, wool) by looking in alternative avenues. I also make some of my own stuff, or upcycle.
And I get a lot of positive comments about my presentation.
yup men generally get screwed in fashion though it seems things are getting better. They usually have less variety and their clothes (especially dress clothes and shoes) are more expensive.
Quality as far as make and fabric is probably about the same...I think in suits, men's suit tend to have a better quality fit and fabric. That is probably because suits really were designed initially for a man's body. But men pay more for quality. I have sons so I know the market.

I must say that you do look quite spiffy in that dress you're wearing in your pic, Jac.
Cormouth: Who gets the better deal when it comes to clothing, men or women?
Style costs more mullah for him probably because men struggle with the concept. Having said that a cheap and cheerful utilitarian look suits men better than it does women.

it is often less expensive for a man to get his shirts and suits cleaned than a woman's gets her shirts and suits cleaned.
Although cheap and poor taste does not look good on either gender.

I find that girls can throw together a stylish outfit on a budget. Men can heap a lot of money at fashion and all too often come out looking like a samey dork or a clashing scruff bag. That correct level of mismatch which is style - the sweet spot which says you took care to put yourself together, but not too much care - is a difficulty for men.

Women do tend to be more savvy with fashion.
I like a man in smart casual. Not too overdone and yet not looking like he's just come from the cowshed either.
Glad I learned how to sew my own clothes.Sometimes I have also shopped at thrift shops or yard sales. Can't stand some of the colors and styles that are out now.

In any shoe shop I've been to there's always a wider variety of ladies shoes than there are of gents shoes . Must be tough keeping up with demand for sales of shoes that get worn once
Women have a tremendous advantage in all the factory outlets and discount stores, even for the ‘high-end’ markets. Taken by a friend to a women’s clothing factory many years ago in lower Manhattan. Watched the man going up and down aisles giving out labels for the women to sew unto the clothing that were finished; both cheap and high-end brands, then came the price tags. When compared to men’s clothing, the women’s clothing was consistently 20 to 30% cheaper even with the mark-up. On our way out, my friend picked up a mink coat for his daughter, age 14 at the time. Price listed was 18 thousand. He paid 2 thousand…Factory outlets in many southern states, one can buy clothes by the pound…50lbs of shirts, large/ medium only $25 dollars…women’s blouses, medium: 50lbs for only $25; were as, women’s underwear, in 75lb bags were only 15 dollars! Whenever I had to go down south, I stopped at several and brought back as much as I could get into the car for everyone that I knew…. Adult toy outlets were just hilarious but profitable when resold...

JeanKimberley: functional and fashionable..... eeeeek!
Those would have been great in the movie Thunderball( along with the underwater car!) I can see all those ‘high fashionistas’ at beaches in Rio or at Punta del Este or the beach across from the Conrad casino in Uruguay wearing them

If I had had a girlfriend, I certainly would have picked up a few bags! I always felt cheated on this as I’ve always enjoyed going out shopping for intimate apparel when I had someone, especially while living in Paris or Berlin with several dozen such shops!

Darn, you spoke so highly about the great deal so I thought you might have a stash in your closet for those rainy days.
