Which do you find to be the better system, and why? I operate both, but after many years of building/repairing computers for a living...I find the Mac to be more reliable.

Example being...I used to see people bring in their PC's week after week...many the same system, with problems being viruses. Be warned...there is NO virus program 100%!! In the last 7+ years that I have run the Mac...I have YET to install an anti-virus program(and I have been on sites that are know to have virus embedded mainly on Warez sites).

So which do you prefer?

Hmmm....something to think about when buying my next computer. I've always used a PC b/c I heard that there were too many limits to the Mac...but I know that's not the case anymore, too.

So, I might try a Mac in the future. I always liked those iMacs...they looked cool.

With the many years that I have had...in all aspects of PC's...as long as you run Microsoft(Windows)...your computer is at risk/target. I have yet to get a virus on my Mac(7+ years)...and read of others that have had theirs for longer...with no need to add a virus program(although the programs are available.

A customer asked me if the Mac was more expensive...and I just told him that when you add up the number of times you have to pay to have it fixed($75-$85)...the PC is acutally more expensive...not to mention the data/music/picture lost.

I feel you would be more happy with a Mac. JMO

I have always used PC's and as a Techie am a Complete Athalon chip fan. Have both PC and an older Mac System. I do like both.

However, after trying the new Mac's @ school, OMG!!!! I am soooooo IMPRESSED with them, ( excuse me, I need to do a Drool Check).

I am planing on my next Desktop being the New Mac. I am considering a MacBook as well. But I still like the Toshiba notebooks that use the Athalon chips

The first computer I got 15 years ago was a Mac and I loved it. Took it out of the box and plugged it in. Since then I've had PCs and had to have help with everything. I am thinking of going back. thumbs up

MAC's are great so long as you don't have a startup problem where your Finder is hosed and you spend 6 hours trying to get it back up and running.

TheresMyFriend: Your right on most issues(JMO)...but for the better part of people that are on the Net...mostly kids and others that don't really understand the concept of how things work, are downloading any and everything that looks interesting. The most downloaded files are ones that are loaded down with spyware/adware , trojans, viruses. Most are not aware that if you install a program, just to see what it is all about...and you try to delete it...it's too late(most of the time). So, it just boils down to the bottom line...what works best for you. But, I find the Mac the least problematic for me.

I can't disagree, the problem is one of education, more than system preference. Aren't Mac repairs more costly as well, since the majority of them are one piece machines?

BTW if you're making bucks on dumb users, might be in your best interest not to wake them up rolling on the floor laughing

cheers

I have always advocated Mac above PC, the way they look, ease of use and the reliability far out run the humble PC.##The argument about software, is in my opinion, rubbish, yes of course there are way more accounts progs, games, word processing packages, but most of these are pretty poor and the majority use just a few main ones, which are all available on the Mac.

To buy a pc with the same spec as a Mac, ie screen quality, graphics, sound and memory efficiency would probably make them the same price.

Its a bit like buying a car, they all get you from a to b, but some just do it with stylecool

Yea...the new Mac, with the Intel chip...is awesome! Mac have always been a "horse of a different color"! I still use both also...but for the Net(with virus issues)I use the Mac...then I keep the PC for off-line stuff.

not true here. conversing they are in fact almost twice as much to get the Mac with the same specs. In fact Mac is often behind in tech. upgrades compared to PC

Well...Mac repairs are a little more expensive...but because there are not that many places that work on Mac's. One reason being...not that much demand/need for repair. Here in my area...you have to go 60-75 miles in 2 different directions to get a Mac repaired. Not like a PC shop on every corner. So, with the onslaught of viruses...PC repair is the more lucrative.

That is true on the wake-up issue...but wouldn't call them dumb...just uneducated.

I've had PC repairs come into the shop on a regular bases(virus related)month after month...and when you do this at $75 to $85 a pop...it does get more expensive than a Mac. There again...bottom line...education(but not always).

There isn't a better computer assembled by you... and served by you. There is also no problem with the software you need, cause a great choice you will have. I prefer to have Linux on board, as no need I have to worry about being virused or hacked... But even with wINDOWs you may secure your self by a very good antivirus and firewall for free) I do not mean cracked ones

PCs and Macs have their own advantages...

Mac is an excelent media computer, as the people I konw, who buy them are either musicians or cutters and photoimposer.
And those who buy PC are programmers, developers, gamers and most usual home users)

It also depends on what you use them for. PC's are a worse due to Windows being on them and the Windows OS if far inferior to the Mac OS, but unfortunately for Macs, Windows has the highest compatibility with programs.

Mac's almost never crash, almost never get viruses, and have one of the most powerful OS's around.

PC's are the opposite, but they have more programs available. Then again, they lost a lot of compatibility with the programs they used to have when they made Windows Vista.

So I lean towards Mac because it's amazing, but I do have a laptop with Vista because I have to use a PC with my college's programs.

True, but Linux is hard to get average computer users on. Then there's the whole open-source thing so they tend to have different tweaks and compatibility depending on where you get them from. dunno Then there's the fact that a lot of people have never even heard of it, so I figured I'd just keep to the Mac and Windows stuff and keep it somewhat simple, thumbs up

It's true Linuxes are a bit comples in configuring system preferences, but even most MS Windows users do not know how to optimize their system and keep doin' "on default"

I own a PC, but have had the oportunity to use a Mac on campus every now and then. They are awsome. Every time a PC "lost" one of my papers, or other random crud, I would turn to the Mac and find it right away.

The only reason I haven't turned to a Mac is because I am a gamer and heard that a lot of games don't work for Macs, but I coudl be wrong/misinformed.

Yeah, seems it's in our nature. Some prefer a quite life tryig to be off preblems and some seek adventures and try or pretend to be alternative and taste smth new, even if come to grief as it was with me, when first tryed to install a Russian Linux and had my hard formated((( That time I lost a good deal of data, even my degree work...
