Exactly - My ex Raf Pal and I were like brothers. He had a daughter, an only child who has always called me uncle Mike, all her life and my late wife was Aunty B. We became and are still very close. She is 36 now and divorced. -- We get the same crap and looks in public from busy-bodies but have always dealt with it head on in words of one syllable when they dared to say anything, and it happened even when her parents were alive.
When her mother passed way in 2013 she had written a caveat into her will naming me as a second beneficiary, and as the closest thing to a second father to her daughter she could wish for which neither of us knew about. -- Neither did the daughter but she showed me the caveat 2 days after the funeral at my house. After I read it she put her arms around me, told me it is true and she had always loved me. I knew what she meant and said I could never break that trust and it is mutual. -
She knows that like her Father and Mother I would never let anyone hurt her but is a very dangerous Lady for any stranger to mix it with - being a Karate Shodan :-)
