You have a 1 in 20 chance of dying and it's highly contagious, meaning eventually everybody will get it. Lets see- that's 375 million people? God help us if we dont get a vacc. or immunity. Does Trump still think it's a hoax? I'd say the hoax is Trump and his idiots running things. Food shortages and medicine shortages. Nurses risking their lives and having to wear next to useless bandanas . Stock market crash, 20 or 30 per cent unemployment. Trump knew about this danger years ago.
I think it's a hoax raph. Major over kill on how it's being handled.
80% will never know they're infected. The U.S. is less than .02% death rate.
I don't like what it does for the older and oldest population. There isn't anything we know of to date, that doesn't take a toll on that. Sometimes younger people too.
Draegoneer: I don't know if it's man made or not. I don't think it's scary. I think people make it scary. Media and politicians don't help.
Are you for real. haven't you noticed that hundreds sometimes thousands of people are dying around you. yeh i'm scared i take all the precautions i can.
We aren't even remotely close to actual tolls for things we know about. We didn't even think about shutting down during the N1H1. It wasn't the only pandemic either.
Survival rate for this virus is still high. To the point a very large population won't even know they have it.
I've already stated my views on the older and oldest population. If what they say about certain people being more susceptible than others, then I fit that category and I'm still not going to panic about it.

Overall there is currently a less than 5% risk of dying IF you contract this disease BUT FIRST of course you'd have to contract the virus and the infection rate continues to be very low even in epidemic areas!
The exact percentage risk for any individual depends upon their age and level of health / fitness prior to exposure to the virus ... those in countries with poor or unaffordable healthcare, low immune system strength, poor nutrition and or living in squalid housing or homeless ... like all diseases the risks runs higher!
USA ... given the number of aggravating factors that have been built up since the early eighties ... you might get off lightly if it's only 1 in 20 !
It's serious stuff - not really a time for party politicking or scoring points - like Nero - fiddling while Rome burned

no no no , Italy has well over 10 % death rate , 69,176 6,820 , first number total cases , second is the death number . Total number contains many thousands of new cases . It takes 8 days to die so take off 8 days and it shows the real death rate , you don't really want to know .

Its a bio weapon designed to kill off the sick and elderly. Look at the countries with most deaths from it: Italy, Spain, France countries with a lot of old people costing the State money. People who are living into their 90's.
raphael119: Nope it's Abraham Lincoln's fault, he encouraged civil war nurses not to wear masks and now everyone thinks masks mean your're hiding something!
My cat lost it back leg and the day after went on as though everything was normal - that's pretty much how human beings were during the last pandemic and throughout the whole of human history. Expendable. But it's changed so much in 100 years that any deviation from comfort feels like a conspiracy.

And I think this is what Somme Commander Trump must realise. People wouldn't march straight into this pandemic even if he ordered them to.
It's also what limits the right response to the virus - the short, sharp, shock. Total lockdown the most radical shutdown policy will be the shortest. We regret the abolition of national service now.
And for the moment Putin's Russia appears relatively unscathed but it's no conspiracy. They're a remote and sparsely populated country that was something of a hermit kingdom anyway, their health system is centralised and soviet which is ideal for the outbreak of an infectious disease that affects society in total without discrimination. They have a universal system for a universal problem.
Anyway if I was to blame any official power - which I'm not - then it would be Russia. They're poised to weather the storm best and gain the most as a country from a Babel-like collapse of globalisation. I still don't think it was the Russians that's just how the chips fall.
Given that the US Govt hold a patent on the virus, and one cannot obtain a patent on a 'naturally occurring substance or item' then I'll leave you to think about the answer for yourselves !
p.s. If it helps you think more deeply the US Govt hold patents on a great many other bio weapons too ... make it a bit of a challenge to always blame China and Russia eh ?

I haven't hear any News from Russia??????????????????
Kidwell_: I haven't hear any News from Russia??????????????????
They took early steps in respect of limiting entry, Putin has announced (today or last night) that there's to be a Sunday to Sunday 'stay away from work and remain at home' week ...
In general terms it would appear that they are better prepared (on the national scale) than most nations (and don;t forget that the Siberia region alone is bigger than all of the EU Countries combined)
Their confidence in capability though might best be gauged by the facts: that they have sent considerable medical resources to Italy and also to Iran.
No its not man made. it's a virus ; but of course there are a ton of ppl in the conspiracy groups that will say it is or that is the first wave of a alien attack. it's nothing to be freaked out about. the standard flu kills more ppl world wide than this one has. but yet nobody shuts down because of cancer or hiv. this is nonsense on the same level as shutting the world down cause hiccups is spreading
The current common flu (my inclusion) season does not appear to be as severe as 2017-2018, when the flu reached epidemic proportions and as many as 95,000 people died, according to CDC estimates.Feb 1, 2020 Between October 1, 2019, and December 7, 2019, there have been up to 3.7 million cases of the flu, between 23,000 to 41,000 hospitalizations, and approximately 1,300 to 3,300 flu-related deaths, according to the CDC . ... Health experts predict that flu activity may peak earlier than usual.Dec 13, 2019
While the impact of flu varies, it places a substantial burden on the health of people in the United States each year. CDC estimates that influenza has resulted in between 9 million – 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 – 810,000 hospitalizations and between 12,000 – 61,000 deaths annually since 2010.
Flu deaths are up more than 65% so far in 2020, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting that 4,800 people had died and 87,000 people had been hospitalized.
So far, 16,000 people have died and 280,000 people have been hospitalized during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to preliminary estimates from the CDC.
The majority of states, as well as New York City and Puerto Rico, are seeing high flu activity.
In total, the CDC estimates that 29 million people have gotten the flu so far this season.
