Let's say things got really crappy economically. Would you choose to leave your native country or continue to put up with the situation? If you chose to leave, on what basis would you choose a new residence? Which country would you emigrate to and why? What do you think you'd miss most?
As I'm a few days away from leaving, I've been pondering weird things like that ... and yesterday, I went out to Fridays and ate myself nearly sick with Nachos because I know I won't get any decent ones for a long time...

This is very much the situation i am in at the moment, but i'm stuck in the UK until i have finished some legal matters.
Then i have to qualify then i am moving to where it is warmer, the people are more polite and i will be able to walk on a beach when i am not working and not freeze my butt off.
There isn't much about the UK i will miss, far too many things i just want to forget.
You folks aren't the first from the UK that I've heard say they're not so happy to live there. I find that most interesting. Yes, I can see the bad weather issue. Was there last summer and boy was it cold and rainy... brrrr. I also noticed that wages are comparatively low (based on what I saw in the windows of the job agencies). That aside, what's going on there that makes people not want to stay?
If I immigrated to any country...it would be Germany! I love the beautiful mountains, the warm people, and the pride the German people have in themselves and their country! If I had any sense at all, I would have learned the language and gotten out of the military in Germany and stayed there.
I also love that Germany is centrally located, making it easier to visit other countries and cultures

I did, from the UK to Spain five years ago, and I live amongst the Spanish people, not the ex-pats, so I have to speak the language. I love this country and the people and never want to leave.
I still have the travel bug though, and sometimes take up temporary job offers elsewhere. I spent last year working in Russia, which was fantastic, but I was very happy to return to my home and friends in Spain.
I would go to a country where there are 10 women for every man, the taxes are low, and stuff like drunk driving and being naked in public are totally legal.
I moved here a year ago after living in California over 30 years. This is where I am staying. I travel almost 6 months of every year seeing every place I am interest. There is no place like home! This is home.

I'm not sure it would do any good to move just for economics...it's bad anywhere you go these days...unless anyone can offer some really good options...I don't see the economy as being a reason to leave my family and friends. Now...for love...that might be a reason.
I would love very much to spend a couple of years in every country there is actually. As in spend a couple years in New Zeland, a couple years in Japan, a couple years in tibet, likely just spend about ten years in Europe visiting all the countries there, a couple in Austrailia... etc That to me would be simply the perfect life in my mind...well if someone went with me anyway LOL
oh...voted any place...(but not for the reason given )
i would love to stay to were i am now, quiet but i choose in out of city or in countryside...

I have to give our president a chance to fix the mess we were put into before I make any drastic changes like that. Especially before retirement. I would for sure go back to my home land St.John, Antigua, West Indies. Its beautiful, exotic and only 69,000 live there :) I think I would miss my pay because going there being a teacher I would not make near or even a pinch as much I make here. I maybe would have to use my business degree to get a higher paying job on the island.

Yes we are..i am from Canada and came down here to North Carolina..we are in the midst of moving back to Canada..health care system there is so much better then the US...becos in Canada with having the card (medicare)..even going to the doctor you dont have to pay a cent..
Going to the hospital for surgery for a day or for a month..year and so on..dont cost a thing...
The ambulance was free..but of course now that does cost something..
I have been pretty lucky here not needing to see a doctor..
