Chased all over North Africa...not once but twice. Surrouned at Torbuk not once but twice. The last time losing the key port city. Greece and Malta campaigns were you got of dodge so fast the locals are still trying to collect the hotel bills. Dieppe were 10000 brave Canadian made deseperat landing and stand against overwhelming odds. Without any relief force or even a Naval fleet assembled to get them off the beach.

A Bridge to Far. Were the British tankers and thier commanders sat had tea while the British para in Armhem were getting mauled. In ability to move during the Battle of the Bulge. While the US force took both the spear heads of the attack and then held the key city of Bastogne. And then Patton crushed the German southern flank to kill the attack.

Not to mention the all time English WWII fiasco at Signapore....where all the big guns were pointed in the wrong direction. How many Battleship did you lose then......2 I think. What was it 150,000 surrendering at Signapore?

Then there is the Bizmark. My my a small flottia of three ships and then a wounded and alone German Battleship Bizmark on the high seas. Ever think to divert the tran atlantic convoys away from them? It is a big ocean. How many cargo ships did either the Bizmark or the two other sink. None. Zero. But no the hunt for the Bizmark took the entire British Navy. Consumed them for a month. Then it take a lucky torpedo strike to foul its rudder or it was home free to France. At a French port to this time and again during the war. Really good stuff there.

Fellows being honest here....it took everything that 'all' allied the countries had to win WWII. "Equal partners in the war" was one of the saying of the day during WWII. They won it together..showed that a international military coalition can be successful to beat back those that would destroy freedom and life. Everyone there should be saluted.

Last story I got. A American 2nd Lt landing in Normady during D-Day. His mission. Find a high point and mark German targets for the off shore Naval guns. He finds a 3 story French farm house with the elderly couple still living there. He approaches the French farmers..says this..."Sir, I want to use your house as forward observation (FO) for directly fire on the Germans. Likely when they learn that FO is here. They will try to destroy your house with artillery fire."

The Frenchman did not hesitate. He says. "For four years the Germans simply took what they wanted. Never asking. If you want this house to free France. Take it. It is yours. We can build another."

All of fathers screwed up in WWII (Americans included). But was men like that Frenchman that won it.
