actually I'd probably make a coffin out of paper-mache thousand dollar bills for me to be buried in to be placed in a paper-mache pyramid made of twenties for me just so I could take it with me...
lion131: if you were rich(maybe you are already!),would you make a big charitable donation?
Definitely the homeless charity because I sympathize with the poor.
Definitely the animal shelter because, i mean really, how can you let mans best friend down.
Definitely would throw alot towards cancer research. I don't know anyone personally that has had cancer, but I think that is one of the most pressing medical issues yet to be solved, and I fear that it is something that we will never fully understand enough about to find a cure because really, as big of an issue as it is, it isn't properly funded.
And finally definitely others, because of my different life experiences, as a child, there was times where my well being depended on those being charitible and in a sense, I would feel a sense of giving back would definitely be in order. I'm not a religious man, but churches do alot of good and doing good is what matters, not whether or not you share the same beliefs. There are honestly many charities that I'd want to spread money too, that are often overlooked, such as foodbanks, clothing banks, Toys For Tots, etc. The poor often are percieved as freeloaders, when in reality, most of them are just unlucky. Someone has to be at the bottom, they just happen to find themselves there. I grew up in poverty and now live a decent lower middle class life. My parents were fortunate to aquire just enough money through the courts that they bought a place of their own. Had they not have had the brief moment of luck due to a small moment of misfortune, I probably would have grown up in poverty for a longer period of time. I don't think those in the middle class realize how hard it is to rise out of poverty. Payiing 600$/month (and that's being cheap) for rent is nothing like paying 1500+ once a year for property taxes. It keeps you in a constant level of just being above water gasping for a breath. I just feel alot of the money I donated, would definitely go towards kids growing up in poverty...In a sense, give them things and have them taken to places , they most likey otherwise would never be able to experience. Alot of times, that taste, that small morsal, can be enough to motivate someone for life, to strive that extra mile and break the cycle of poverty.
Over the past few years I've made a small donation to an international one at Christmastime on behalf of my daughter .. it's become one of her gifts from me

That's a nice gift.
I like the Oxfam gifts where you make a donation and get a card for someone saying, I bought you 10 chickens/a goat/20 trees/a water purifier etc, but I gave them/it to somebody who needed it more.

Or we could just feed the hungry children to the hungry animals and both would be settled.

If I were rich I would not donate to any org. I would start my own org (in my place) to support affordable housing for people with very little income, not free but getting them into the job and making them to get into school for education and some work trainning.
popsiclestoes: I would start my own charity organization and get richer!
You're spot on. That's what many of the organizations do. It's not about the charity. It's about survival of the fittest, which is the management of the huge not for profit organizations; United Way, for one!
lion131: if you were rich(maybe you are already!),would you make a big charitable donation?
I would donate..but not to any org. to much of the money does not go to where its needed..I would take care of the things myself..at some orgs. up to 80% of the money they get is used for shuffling paper, paying salaries, advertising and the likes..at least this how it was a few years ago but I doubt much has changed
The one you mentioned also has a habit of coersion to employees in corporations. Get down on your luck and try to get help from any of their many branches. You will find them to be practically non existent.
