I remember when my first husband tried to teach me to drive! It was a disaster. We ended up in a huge fight! So I took the car and taught myself...A couple of weeks later, after studying and practicing, I drove myself to the drivers licence center, did the test, and drove myself home.
my dad - in the evenings after dinner on quiet streets - I had been driving for months when I had my 16th birthday and went for my license
the trooper didn't give it to me and fabricated some minor infraction - I aced the written test so they couldn;t use that, but since it was only 2 days past my birthday - I know that's why he wouldn't give it to me - thought I was too young
I went back a couple weeks later, aced it again - at that point they couldn't say no
Ima natural with cars - kind of a machinehead in a girly way. I drive by feel and hate those little arrows that tell me when to shift. I feel like my cams are talkin to me

My ex taught me how to drive in a standard shift Envoy Epic...what a buzzbox.... Funny, but during those lessons, some dude beside the dirt road mooned me (seriously folks)....that was a true test of my abilities to stay on the road

I learned in High School. It was a class offered. And it was fun! We had simulators and pretend we were driving down a street, and it was like a video game with objects coming at us unexpectedly. And they also took us out to the "Skid Pan". The surface was wet or icy, depending on the weather, and the we got the car going at a high speed and the instructor would then purposely put the car out of control. We had to learn how to quickly get the car back under control in all situations.
I learned to drive a manual transmission from a friend. That was an experience. I stalled out the car many times, in traffic. Was nerve-wracking. Especially learning how to not allow the car to roll backwards on a hill, at a stop, with a car right behind me.
