Hey DW ... Haven't picked up on it but do you tend to use past tense in your writing? ... Talking about yourself "in the past" seems to be the trouble here... present tense and future tense "my life is extraordinary" ... "all those who continue to inspire me..."
btw... to someday look back and say "I've lived an extraordinary life" would be wonderful... but it's even better to be able to look at it this way as it's happening!
I did find another book with this title... a Harlequin paperback (Romance) ... by a different author. Thanks for clearing up the reference.
The topic is "destiny".
Personally I don't like the idea... it sounds too passive... like I can't and shouldn't try to control my life.
I think it works well in poetry though... in concept... but not so much in reality. I don't like to limit my imagination... like to think that anything is possible... not just one thing.
Ham - If they complain about the guitar, mention that you considered taking up tuba! They should consider themselves to be fortunate, indeed.
I do have a spare trombone I can send... want to give it a try?
Today... afternoon gig... one of the songs we played was "Blues in the Night" (also known as "My Momma Done Told Me")... perhaps you know it. Here's Cab Calloway... (these old recordings are real treasure!)
Madison was talking about civil liberties and how fear can influence our outlook on liberty/freedom.
We fear riots, so we implement a curfew ... we fear attacks on airplanes, so security measures sometimes are extreme.
If we feel protected, are we more willing to give up a piece of our freedom and liberty?
The challenge is that some sacrifice of liberty is necessary in the name of safety. The concern is that this can go too far. A good example is tolerating the idea of racial profiling or detaining someone because of the way they look.
(as for terrorism... I fear there will always be someone who believes killing is necessary to achieve their goals )
- Well, from what I can tell, the beaches there aren't very inviting.
I think the science is fascinating! They struck water (not oil) so I'm not concerned about commercial interests (who might not be as careful as scientists) getting involved.
I agree with spdspd... I don't see this as leading to bad things for Antarctica.
I like the single palm that's stretched out over the water... a precarious position but it gets all the sunlight it wants.
Poetry asks the question... music expresses the poetry... and my own answer is "enjoying the journey ... appreciating today while considering what tomorrow will bring."
(Which comes first, btw, the music or the poetry? )
Work ... and a concert (1 hr at a nursing home) in the afternoon ... could have used a few flowers to pass out! ... Not close to the beach here... not at all.
Glad you had a good day... It's nice that you were able to help the florist.
"I'm going to make a change and won't be able to continue here. I don't want the transition to be difficult for you or the school but it's necessary. I'm able to continue for ___ weeks if you would like me to."
No immediate response is needed from him... probably best to talk/meet again in a few days as Lachica suggested.
The bottom line is that you need to take care of yourself and what is best for you. You should be able to do this and still be friendly about it.
If he has trouble understanding and being friendly about the change, he needs to work on his friendship skills.
I played a Valentines Day concert at a nursing home this afternoon... lots of ladies wearing red... and many made a point to thank us as we were packing up... nice people.
-- The author talks about life skills... the value of independence... how people who have been single are more capable because they've needed to learn to be.
It's not an article about romance or broken hearts... just one of being practical... and one way to answer the question (as written by Tennyson) about whether it is better to have loved and lost... which you blog brought to my mind.
Happy Day of Valentines
-- (and Tennyson's question... that would probably make a good blog itself )
Is Greece or the failure of the Greek economy a threat to anyone?
Yes, Turkey's economy is doing very well... but I'm not sure how they would end up involved.
After the Greek people make the really hard decisions they need to, plenty of nations will step up to help them.
My only concern is that they won't make the difficult decisions and end up choosing a non-democratic form a government... but I don't see that happening.
I wish them the best... really hard to accept (relative) poverty compared to what they've had.
RE: Communication Without Too Much Communication ;)
Hi Ariel Nice to see you on the blogs!I think more communication should lead to more understanding ... but might not lead to more agreement ...
So if agreement is the real issue, talking about it more and more might just make the disagreement stronger.
I'm a huge fan of understanding.
Agreement is secondary to this (not as important), in my opinion.
Great blog!
