That is a question that I can't answer myself. My belief is a measure of not how much I know but a rather manifest of my faith which you can't truly equate to any definitive and or scientific process.
I do know that our world progressed tremendously on the account of religious principles. Yet it is the very tool that was used for so many fallible and questionable account of brutalities and wars.
Yet in the end, you and I and all of us, truly don't know what happens after we die. Very few has gone so deep like Dr. Brian Weiss on the encounter of documented lives through his patient. But you have to read and figure it out yourself. MANY LIVES MANY MASTERS, is the title of the book and will give you an enlightened take on life, and the dimensions available for our spirit and energy. But as you said, the truth of the matter is, not whether you are atheist and or a believer that causes the dynamics of life's account on being good or bad. Simply a choice of choosing to be respectful and open minded on other's way of life.
Unity and understanding is achieved with or without religion but plain common sense..
First of all my friend, be who you are. Second, since you clarified that fanatics are responsible in your salty feelings on matters regarding religion, that exempts the good Believers, of which I belong.
Yes religion is a powerful tool that has helped many a man in their search for what they believe in just as much as the influence on so many brutal acts are accounted for.
it is not religion that is bad really, but the people who has used it for their own end even at the expense of the good that we can all learn.
Now you leave me alone with my belief and I will leave you alone is a good balance. After all like you said, being good sometimes can truly be shaped by the fundamental teachings of all religion. The Ten Commandments to me is a very good example of what a good community we can all be if we truly observe and practice the essence of the belief and principle it fosters.
However, in the barbaric origin of this uncivilized world, religion came to cement people's trust, respect, belief and love for each other. I can't emphasize enough that had my pagan ways of life would have succeeded in rising above Christianity, WE WOULD STILL BE BEHEADING OTHER PEOPLE WHO BELONG TO ANOTHER TRIBE. And I thank God and my ancestors for having submitted to the more civilized ways of life brought by the pilgrims.
In closing, religion or belief is not the problem. It is the very basic lack of respect and unity among people and go to the extreme and claim God as the source of anything for the killing and other brutal infliction of injury. All for power and greed.
That's my biggest point Lou. If by God, I earned them right to feel safe and it is compromised what kind of law is there that is subjeto an instinctive notion?
On all the comments as varied as it is. I still maintain the first act that led to such an escalation. Still no one can present me the fact that the commission of the first entry. By force and I am an innocent peaceful old retired woman, where In expected my safety in my own dominion and you come and injure me in ways I have not ever imagined? Would I have to think of my safety? And amidst panic and fear. I would be dead?
I totally agree with you Lou. If and when the law provides our protection ad the first act of the violation come to us, who are we to know what is and not to kill you?
Calli, I read that part and I did mention in the first comment I added that the only reason they found him guilty is because of the fact that he set up himself to be waiting for them.
But regardless, they came and broke into my house. They had an intent to harm me, no matter what, Now whether the girl said: Please don't kill me, is truly a bit questionable..
But the total message it gives to our society as an example is that we clarify the extent of what harm we get and forgo?
I am so happy to see you here my dear Martina, yes I do agree with you. And regardless of the motivation which I am not able to gauge when that thing happens doesn't diminish the fact that my safety is compromised.
Adamisk, did I misinterpret your comment? The jury found the old man guilty and therefore making his \killing to the kids, not justified..Maybe we can help the old man exonerate himself?
Yes Non, the process do take a very careful and calculated acts to make sure no one is sent to pay what is not due.
And there is no other way than for us the innocent to foot the bill as again I have covered, for our protection from such an unspeakable act. A gift and a curse..indeed, it is..Non.
Thanks Kitty, and I am not so sure anymore if it is good or not. But how are you? And I must say, we do cater our minds to the circumstance and depth of our involvement in the matter. And draw our conclusion to the needs it serves for humanity and learning. I hope.
Understand Z but there is a new part of the story that just got revealed at the moment.
It said in the paper that the old man, having experienced this once before, indeed taped and recorded the whole act and it starts from the way he waited for them to show up and which they did and killed them in the process..
Now why would this tilt to the premeditation is just not quite clear to me.
Lou, yes, I don't want anyone to define what is safe for me. I am in my peaceful abode. Very settled with the protection of the law given me. Why should anyone tell me how I feel when I am threatened or not. They came into my house. How can I differentiate the level of danger for me to protect myself?
Yes I kind of remember that Lou but for the life of me, I truly don't know what happened, but this is what makes me confident Lou that the number of innocent going even into trial perhaps will be completely eliminated because of the effective way of producing forcible evidence.
This makes it easier for me to agree about the Death Penalty to some murders like Z said.
Now that is a variable of view to be taken into account Ito. Your strength and your disposition to being shaken. But what if you are like me, very much conditioned on terror of such an act. Would have I been justified to commit the most that makes me feel safe?
Haven't watched that yet Butter and I will try to go today and watch it, but I know that when our peace is compromised, it makes us think nothing but our survival.
Ed, I am considering for the proposal of such a leniency an act that can actually lead to a more grievous act. When do we know that a plain burglary could go bad and involved taking lives?
Should have the kids, forewarned the old man and say, I am only here to steal and not to kill?
I am too, very torn on this one Ed. Here if I were living all by myself or even with someone but here is an intruder and not knowing what he is capable with including harming and killing me, why not?
I would do anything to protect me, and sad to say but being dead first wouldn't have protected me, would it?
Ito! thanks. Our law is very specific subject to how you feel when you are threatened. It does say: You have the right to kill for your defense and severe bodily threatened. Now who will measure your level of threat?
Now that maybe the case Candy, but check this out. Here is a perfectly peaceful man living in his house with a license gun for his protection, now just because the age is an issue that make it any different? Now should we set aside laws for young kids then? Yet they are perfectly capable of such a crime?
