Being a proud atheist

I have read many blogs on the subject matter of religion and I can safely say that I am proud to be an atheist, because I am in charge of my own destiny not a god.

Some brainwashed fanatics say that good people who don’t believe in a god won’t go to heaven, but who decides whether they do or whether they don’t? Are they saying people will be excused for every crime or bad deed they committed and still go to heaven as long as they believe in a god? In the so called name of god people have murdered millions of innocent people in wars over religion; many fanatics have spread hate towards gays, aggressively manipulated their beliefs on others and are totally un-accepting of other religions or atheists.

Instead of going to heaven how about leaving this earth in peace knowing you have been in charge of your own destiny, helped others who needed help, lived life honesty without judgement of others beliefs, race, sexuality, disabilities and of course lived a happy fulfilling life, so when I sum it up religion has nothing to do with happiness nor does it have any bearing on how someone leaves this earth.

I believe in being a good person, loving others close to me, being opened to others opinions and taking them on board, sticking up for what is right, being honest, kind, thoughtful, understanding and most of all believing in myself.
These are my opinions and you are free to share yours.

Welcome Red, Yes we as individuals determine our own destiny's and for me we can only control what happens around us while we exist on this earth, so do we really care what happens to us when we leave this earth? I would have to say no as long as we have have been a good person to others, fair and caringwine beer
Redex you know me so well giggle
in a friendship should not need to involve the issue of religion or belief. just respect each other as friends and not have to impose what we believe. because I think religion is a personal thing. and friendship because we trust each other.

So, be friends with good people regardless of religion.
in this case, you are with your way and I am with my way..

just live in peace ... peace peace
smart top girl that is the essence of true friendship and acceptancepeace teddybear
I would like to state that I'm a Christian but I know for a fact that I am too naive still to be a good one. I guess that will come in time. Thats my opinion.thumbs up
It is I suppose logic that if you blogged long enough eventually you'd say something I could agree with laugh rolling on the floor laughing thumbs up
Smart, Yes very good point and we are all free to believe what we want to and be friends with who we want to, but the problem arises when fanatics claim we are not good people or won't go to heaven just, because we don't believe in the same thing that they do and may more wars will be fought between them sadlywave
That's right, be proud in what you believe in and stand tall for it but respect the believes of others; for they too have a right to believe in what they want.

As an afterthought; brains are required to be brainwashed.grin
Freedom... I am fanatics, mean I do all my religion rules but I am not radical, mean I dont judge that other peoples are not good just bcos they have different belief.

1 question, who can guarantee that I would be going to heaven even though I do praying 5x a day, doing good things to all peoples and etc etc....??? no body knows abt that.

So, I never judge peoples from the religion or their belief to say that you are good or bad... the most important we don't hurt each other and respect. no need to talk abt the world, even in a family.. the differences is there...

when I meet someone like that, its simple, I will answer : " So what, is that problem for you?"...dunno
Mountain, We are all free to agree or disagree as long as we are respectful to the one's we don't agree with when we dowave
So u r not afraid of burning in hell?devil

Ok, me too.laugh
First of all my friend, be who you are. Second, since you clarified that fanatics are responsible in your salty feelings on matters regarding religion, that exempts the good Believers, of which I belong.

Yes religion is a powerful tool that has helped many a man in their search for what they believe in just as much as the influence on so many brutal acts are accounted for.

it is not religion that is bad really, but the people who has used it for their own end even at the expense of the good that we can all learn.

Now you leave me alone with my belief and I will leave you alone is a good balance. After all like you said, being good sometimes can truly be shaped by the fundamental teachings of all religion. The Ten Commandments to me is a very good example of what a good community we can all be if we truly observe and practice the essence of the belief and principle it fosters.

However, in the barbaric origin of this uncivilized world, religion came to cement people's trust, respect, belief and love for each other. I can't emphasize enough that had my pagan ways of life would have succeeded in rising above Christianity, WE WOULD STILL BE BEHEADING OTHER PEOPLE WHO BELONG TO ANOTHER TRIBE. And I thank God and my ancestors for having submitted to the more civilized ways of life brought by the pilgrims.

In closing, religion or belief is not the problem. It is the very basic lack of respect and unity among people and go to the extreme and claim God as the source of anything for the killing and other brutal infliction of injury. All for power and greed.

Thanks.
I had a friend that used to say; "thank God I don't believe in God".confused
Cat, We all have brains and some are easily influenced by manipulation, but others are strong enough to think for themselves and be free from manipulative influence of others.

I'm proud to be a believer of Jesus Christ! cheering cheering cool
Friend, You are correct in saying that I oppose cults, extremists and fanatical religious groups that are un-accepting of others beliefs, but I am not opposed to any religion that is non-judgemental, peaceful and good.

I would never suggest that being an atheist gives anyone the excuse for being a bad person and we are all accountable for the live's we live on this earth no matter what are beliefs are.

I am just putting across my view point on this subject and stating that as long as we are good people on this earth does it really matter what happens to us when we leave this earth.

Luke, Have a good day and things can't be that badbeer
bung, harmless humour sometimes keeps us going when we are downcheers
That is a question that I can't answer myself. My belief is a measure of not how much I know but a rather manifest of my faith which you can't truly equate to any definitive and or scientific process.

I do know that our world progressed tremendously on the account of religious principles. Yet it is the very tool that was used for so many fallible and questionable account of brutalities and wars.

Yet in the end, you and I and all of us, truly don't know what happens after we die. Very few has gone so deep like Dr. Brian Weiss on the encounter of documented lives through his patient. But you have to read and figure it out yourself. MANY LIVES MANY MASTERS, is the title of the book and will give you an enlightened take on life, and the dimensions available for our spirit and energy. But as you said, the truth of the matter is, not whether you are atheist and or a believer that causes the dynamics of life's account on being good or bad. Simply a choice of choosing to be respectful and open minded on other's way of life.

Unity and understanding is achieved with or without religion but plain common sense..

Thanks, Freedom! Have a nice day too!
Religion is one set of beliefs and atheism is another substitution. But beliefs are beliefs, having every possibility and probability to be false. But your existence is not a belief. You feel proud to be an atheist because you feel you are in charge of your destiny not a god. But that is a shaky claim because it is not you but your mind and body, the in charge.
Usually it is seen that atheists follow science. Do you?
As always, I love your response KC my friend. But even better for me is that I couldn't care less if I am proven to be wrong and or right. It is just there for me now. Now is the time for me to have it to my system..and yes, the non claim of such is the void of all that can be proven as such...
Phyllis We can't go long ignoring the eternal truth...if we do...bound to return frustrated, because after achieving the threshold elevation to some higher platform, you can't be fooled by mind games.
God gives us free will and the ability to create our tomorrows..."Be ye as gods" I am so surprised that you say this Freedom as I thought I knew you a little bit.....wow
Just wondering why we should be anything at all when it comes to what we believe or not believe. I am not an atheist even though I stay clear of gods and other stuff you need to believe in, in order for it to be real.
It is only believe that keeps God alive. Soon as most people stop believing in him, he will disappear like all the gods before him. dunno
