Being a proud atheist
I have read many blogs on the subject matter of religion and I can safely say that I am proud to be an atheist, because I am in charge of my own destiny not a god. Some brainwashed fanatics say that good people who don’t believe in a god won’t go to heaven, but who decides whether they do or whether they don’t? Are they saying people will be excused for every crime or bad deed they committed and still go to heaven as long as they believe in a god? In the so called name of god people have murdered millions of innocent people in wars over religion; many fanatics have spread hate towards gays, aggressively manipulated their beliefs on others and are totally un-accepting of other religions or atheists.
Instead of going to heaven how about leaving this earth in peace knowing you have been in charge of your own destiny, helped others who needed help, lived life honesty without judgement of others beliefs, race, sexuality, disabilities and of course lived a happy fulfilling life, so when I sum it up religion has nothing to do with happiness nor does it have any bearing on how someone leaves this earth.
I believe in being a good person, loving others close to me, being opened to others opinions and taking them on board, sticking up for what is right, being honest, kind, thoughtful, understanding and most of all believing in myself.
These are my opinions and you are free to share yours.

God is the friend you Just haven't talked to yet.
So, be friends with good people regardless of religion.
in this case, you are with your way and I am with my way..
just live in peace ...
As an afterthought; brains are required to be brainwashed.
1 question, who can guarantee that I would be going to heaven even though I do praying 5x a day, doing good things to all peoples and etc etc....??? no body knows abt that.
So, I never judge peoples from the religion or their belief to say that you are good or bad... the most important we don't hurt each other and respect. no need to talk abt the world, even in a family.. the differences is there...
when I meet someone like that, its simple, I will answer : " So what, is that problem for you?"...
Ok, me too.
Yes religion is a powerful tool that has helped many a man in their search for what they believe in just as much as the influence on so many brutal acts are accounted for.
it is not religion that is bad really, but the people who has used it for their own end even at the expense of the good that we can all learn.
Now you leave me alone with my belief and I will leave you alone is a good balance. After all like you said, being good sometimes can truly be shaped by the fundamental teachings of all religion. The Ten Commandments to me is a very good example of what a good community we can all be if we truly observe and practice the essence of the belief and principle it fosters.
However, in the barbaric origin of this uncivilized world, religion came to cement people's trust, respect, belief and love for each other. I can't emphasize enough that had my pagan ways of life would have succeeded in rising above Christianity, WE WOULD STILL BE BEHEADING OTHER PEOPLE WHO BELONG TO ANOTHER TRIBE. And I thank God and my ancestors for having submitted to the more civilized ways of life brought by the pilgrims.
In closing, religion or belief is not the problem. It is the very basic lack of respect and unity among people and go to the extreme and claim God as the source of anything for the killing and other brutal infliction of injury. All for power and greed.
Thanks.
I would never suggest that being an atheist gives anyone the excuse for being a bad person and we are all accountable for the live's we live on this earth no matter what are beliefs are.
I am just putting across my view point on this subject and stating that as long as we are good people on this earth does it really matter what happens to us when we leave this earth.
I do know that our world progressed tremendously on the account of religious principles. Yet it is the very tool that was used for so many fallible and questionable account of brutalities and wars.
Yet in the end, you and I and all of us, truly don't know what happens after we die. Very few has gone so deep like Dr. Brian Weiss on the encounter of documented lives through his patient. But you have to read and figure it out yourself. MANY LIVES MANY MASTERS, is the title of the book and will give you an enlightened take on life, and the dimensions available for our spirit and energy. But as you said, the truth of the matter is, not whether you are atheist and or a believer that causes the dynamics of life's account on being good or bad. Simply a choice of choosing to be respectful and open minded on other's way of life.
Unity and understanding is achieved with or without religion but plain common sense..

Always...
Usually it is seen that atheists follow science. Do you?
It is only believe that keeps God alive. Soon as most people stop believing in him, he will disappear like all the gods before him.
