Molly -- in the 1918 pandemic people may have died from influenza, but the presence of TB in the populations fueled it. Contagious diseases are best not to ignored, no matter where they start.

Winner Take All

The thing is Frontnine35, Natural Law depends on an ethical framework that is SUPPOSEDLY imprinted every human being. But unbridled GREED has shown us that Natural Law does not stand up against the drive acquire wealth. The classic line - Greed is Good - Profits are All.

RE: new Serfdom ?

ChesneyChrist = your thinking in good - but limited. First off not all companies sell common stock available to the public. Second not all people have ready cash to buy stock. Lastly buying only a few shares does not give one the power to sway company CEOs. But still I applaud your contribution to this discussion

RE: new Serfdom ?

2maybe - I applaud your effort to forewarn others of impending subversion of their privacy. It is too bad the writers of the US constitution gave little thought to issues of personal privacy. Too bad.

RE: The curtain rod, revenge, that in the end served him right.............

Nicely told - KUDOS

RE: BETELGEUSE MAY BE FIXIN' TO EXPLODE!!

Jim, I don't mean to nitpick - but the speed of light is the MAX speed. Neutrinos are interesting in that being near massless, they can travel through objects in their path including the Earth. AS for you or I seeing Betelgeuse explode, the star is fainting, not expanding, meaning it has used up a lot of its matter. IT is more apt to contract and become a Black Hole than explode. I say more apt as we are still trying get a handle on Black Holes.

Species

ChesneyChrist - I wasn't discussing Eugenics here, but yes culling out genes via selective breeding rarely improves the species. One sees this in animal breeding all the time. AS it turns out a negative gene can have a positive effect. Sickle Cell Anemia can kill, but it also can provide resistance to Malaria, which is a good thing.

Species

Stingman - You are free to practice your religion as you choose. HOWEVER forcing your religious views on others is not a right guaranteed by the US constitution.

Anytime you wish you are free to stop using science based technologies like the internet and the phone.

Species

Give it up, Stringman - The Courts ruled against teaching Creationism in the classroom. Its a dead issue.

One more thing - just because science calls something a Theory does not mean it is NOT well proven. Gravity, for instance, is a Theory because it, like Evolution, is open to further exploration.

The Bible's contents, contrary wise, are considered beyond dispute. It's proof lying the undying faith individuals like yourself. No matter how faith you have, gravy will pull you down and evolutionary pressures will continue shaping the future.

Species

Well said, Molly. LOL

RE: BETELGEUSE MAY BE FIXIN' TO EXPLODE!!

Miclee you certainly display a wide spread of interests. Good for you. This might like this calendar of solar events.

Species

LOL - The Native Americans themselves are immigrants of sorts - their ancestors came across an ice bridge from Asia during the last ice age.

Species

Species is NOT about being identical - Look around you - even within a family group one can see a great of variation - the greater the variation, the healthy the species. Environment in combination with Evolution has brought on this variation. Variety is good. It is healthy.

Much the same can be said for cultural differences - USA's history of welcoming immigrants to its doors has made this country far stronger and far more interesting place to live.

Eugentics

I stated my opinion - an opinion based on GOOD scientific thinking - NOT bad politics. I have my say and I done talking. You are welcome to twist and distort history as please.

RE: USA - Referendum

Technically Trump has been IMPEACHED. What is happening now is a Senate trial to decide if the impeachment accusations, as stated by the House of Representatives, should result in REMOVAL of president Trump from office.

However the Senate votes, history will forever note Trump was impeached.

RE: This day in history

clever - thanks for sharing

RE: Einstein's Riddle

I don't mean to take away from your fun, but given there is strong evidence Charles Lutwidge Dodgson - otherwise known as Lewis Carroll - created this puzzle, not Einstein. Dodgson was a mathematician who dedicated himself to logic of linear algebra. Whereas Einstein was theorist who was a bit weak on math skills.

Snow

Jim, seeing your list of blogs, I realize I have been holding back. My last few times out the gate with social commentary brought on whole swarm of trolls. I tried chasing back their quotes only to discover I was wading into murky waters where true believers transformed into truths for the masses to digest. I gave up.

RE: Democrats -- Ever Wonder What Went Wrong With Them In Their Childhood?

What I think is in the genes is ignorance and your phenotype reeks of it.

RE: CBC removes Donald Trump's scene from 'Home Alone 2' broadcast: report

Call it Liberal control if you want - but it was the NORM that a candidate's prior movies, TV and such was taken down during a campaign. IT was a question of fairness to the other candidates. No one screamed unfair during Ronald Reagan's run. Not even Reagan.

RE: Women's rights: are we really free?

Mapmaker - I second your statement. Bad Boys win and while the good guys rarely finish the race. That just the way society works.

RE: Let's have some fun!

the obvious answer is Undress.

RE: BAN DHMO...NOW!!

Yes, really - your dhmo is a simplistic description of H2O empirical formula for water. - 2 hydrogens, 1 oxygen. One Hydroxy Hydrate on the other hand relates to the naming conventions used for any molecule. 1 hydrogen linked to 1 hydroxol (or OH alcohol) group.

Quiz time - what is 1,2 Dimethol Benedrine ? How about Deoxyribonucleic acid
On first glance the naming convention feels awkward, but if you know the system it allows to instantly visualize even the most of molecules.

RE: BAN DHMO...NOW!!

DHMO is yet another way of saying H2O or Water - you can also say One Hydroxy Hydrate if you want to continue this silly joke

RE: Let's talk crazy conspiracies?

The thing about conspiracies is everyone loves them, including the Russsian Hackers. Okay I cast my net a bit suggesting "everyone". Flint, for instance, was bound to happen. The water treatment plants in this country are nearing the hundred year mark. Even the mortar in the brick walls is getting old. Okay some people got really stupid thinking they could save bucu bucks by using local water instead of buying Detroit water. The conspiracies came afterwards as people tried to cover their legal asses.

RE: the antisocial

you have my vote, Serene. There are moments when I grow weary explaining myself to others. Tired of conforming so they feel comfortable.

RE: "WHEN IT COMES TO GUNS"

Niceguy - kudos - I did not serve in Vietnam because I failed the physical. = an issue I am now paying for with heart problems

RE: Please Explain

The answer I suspect is not gun regulations, but electronics. Electronics changed phones, cameras, cars and the work place. The only thing electronics has not changed significantly is guns. I am not a gun person, hence I can't even begin to guess what the changes will be, but I suspect gun safety will be high on the list of what buyers will seek..

RE: "WHEN IT COMES TO GUNS"

Better yet, go read a book on economics

RE: "WHEN IT COMES TO GUNS"

Or come back in 20 years when an automated gun system shoots down a teenager trying to retrieve her soccor ball. Tell how that weapon system will keep politicians at bay.
