This day in history

Today is the 10,483rd anniversary of the invention of the wheel. It's creator, Ug was born in the village of Grot (population 15) and was orphaned at a young age when his hunter/gatherer parents were eaten by a giant carnivorous chipmunk (now extinct).

Some of Ug's early inventions included the stick, and the sharpened stick. It was obvious to anyone who knew Ug that he was destined for greatness.

Ug moved to the big city (population 27) to carve his niche as a...niche carver and during the course of his endeavors, Ug serendipitously realized that large stones could be rolled if he chipped away the jagged edges.

Ug was working on a particularly large stone when he decided to rest and have a beer... or five. As Ug later tried to push the stone up a hill, he inadvertently discovered potential energy when he stumbled and lost his footing. He apparently had one too many before getting behind the wheel.

This day in history also marks the 10,483rd anniversary of the first road kill.

Maybe it's just as well he didn't play with fire.
Um...that rolling stone is kinetic energy btw-- not potential.
Perhaps I didn't go into enough detail but by pushing the 'wheel' uphill there was stored energy. That's what our fictitious friend Ug had unwittingly discovered as the wheel began to roll back over him.

Yes, I left entirely too much open to interpretation but I thought the snarky line about getting behind the wheel after having one too many would have been enough for a proper visual. My bad.
I'd like to think it's also the 10,483rd anniversary of the invention of the Local Authority, formed initially to tackle the problematic issue of clearing the aforementioned roadkill, for health and safety reasons.

It's unlikely, perhaps, that it's the 10,481st anniversary of the roadkill actually being removed and disposed of. There will have been all sorts of stonework which takes time to go through the proper channels.

Why do we keep going round and round with this subject?
I wonder how long it took to evolve from the stick, to the sharpened stick?laugh Maybe the timeframe had something to do with the parents and the giant Chipmonk? confused
