Very true Jenny. Going outside weather warm or cold was a real treat. I don't know how kids today stay inside all the time. At night I would sneak out and join my friends. We had a bottle rocket battle one time holding the rocket with our hands and shooting them at each other. Yes, I have all 10 of my fingers.
One time when I was 16 my friend had a car. We would go out to the country at night and ride on the hood of his car through a cornfield. I was crazy...but I'm still alive.
Great blog! I can relate to most of the items mentioned. I just turned 60 Friday and my friend called wishing me a happy birthday. One thing he said was how did we survive so long?
Add to the list, playing baseball in the roadway, walking miles from home with friends to a shopping center (not many malls back then), playing Evel Knievel on our bikes jumping trash cans using a rickety ramp. Those were the days!
I wish you asked earlier. I hit the Derby winner this year and hit the exacta in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. A real triple crown year personally.
I use to go to the track and bet the ponies once in a while. If I walked out with the same amount of money as I came in, it was a great day.
I'd have fun betting, sit outside on a sunny warm day, eat and drink, buy the Daily Racing Form, pay for parking and entrance fee. If I came out even...
When I was about 20 someone put a hit of LSD in my drink without me knowing it. I started to feel weird and then the person told me what they did. I was pretty angry as the effects lasted for about 8 hours.
One wild thing was my roommate put on a Yoda mask and I really thought he was Yoda!
Power walking much better for old fogies like me. I also agree lifting weights is great for toning. Any cardiovascular activity has a tremendous impact on health. I plan on doing all the above when I move hopefully in a few weeks!
I'm about to move to Florida. I plan on taking a 100% healthy approach to life after I move. I have bipolar disorder along with type II diabetes, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, and I have gained weight recently.
I am going to follow a low-fat high carbohydrate diet that is totally plant based. After a few months I hope to get off all the meds I am taking especially the bipolar meds. I've tried over 30 medications for depression/bipolar over 45 years since I was first diagnosed. I know the meds have caused long term damage to me physically and mentally.
I have learned that the human body can repair itself with the right healthy choices we make. I'm going to give it a try.
RE: We Survived, we really did...............against all odds, the good old days, wished you were back..
