RE: Boxing day

I do a lot of (automotive) research for work - I need to remind myself that I am not in the office! Actually, I think Mike's answer was much better...laugh

RE: why do i meet great people but noones wanting to move to florida ?

Maybe that one Bush is enough for most? dunno

RE: Boxing day

The day after Christmas, the Feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is better known as Boxing Day. The term may come from the opening of church poor boxes that day; maybe from the earthenware boxes with which boy apprentices collected money at the doors of their masters' clients.

Nowadays, we often see, in certain families, gifts (boxes) given to those who provide services throughout the year.

"Boxing Day" is listed in the Canada Labour Code as a holiday.

RE: what did you get for Christmas?

My gift is in the fridge - a ham. I have to cook it. But it's also pre-cooked. I'm thankful for the little things...

RE: No Snow....

My fourth Christmas here. Still no snow. I keep hoping...dunno

RE: Who's on? Sign in here.

Robert here, after a lengthy sabbatical. Hmmmm. Can't think of anything not in my profile. Um, uh, Happy Holidays to all. There. That's not in there...

RE: Merry Christmas everyone!

Thank you, and Merry Christmas to both of you.

A wonderful holiday to all, and a Happy and Fruitful New Year.

To current and future Miss Americas, may the coming year be absent of controversy.

RE: Jealousy or...

Good point cool

RE: Jealousy or...

I do - if you're not secure with yourself, or lacking esteem, chances are you are worried that you're not good enough, thus jealous that he/she may be looking elsewhere.

My my, this has been an entertaining thread...

RE: Jealousy or...

<~~~~~agrees with Lori. Where's there's insecurity or jealousy, there's doubt. Where there's doubt, there's probably something wrong...

RE: Jealousy or...

Those standards, I would think, are held by the person observing the behavior. Some things bother some more than others?

RE: hi!

Welcome to CS....dancing

RE: young people

RE: Define OCD

Tomorrow it's supposed to rain here. The car will get dirty, something I accept. I also have to accept the fact that the moment the pavement dries I'll be at the local powerhose wash. Sick.

RE: The languages of the US

<Looks at watch> - Wow, look at the time. Ducking out for another intellectual pursuit - the Bears and Pats...

RE: Tomorrow...

Best wishes, prayers, and yes, keep us posted!

RE: The languages of the US

Which begs the question - what would the rationale be for the language of preference to be something other than english? grin

RE: The languages of the US

I'll take the pragmatic, and admittedly easy, way out: The english language is still spoken (as plarkin pointed out, in some cases, not very well) by the vast majority here.

RE: The languages of the US

My last .02 on this subject (if it is deemed worth that much).

I love diversity, one of the things I actually like about Southern California. I am often told I am on the wrong end of an immigration discussion, legal or otherwise.

That being said, if I were to move to another country, my reasonable expectation is that I would have to try to assimilate to that country, not vice versa. That's all.

RE: The languages of the US

I think the Star Spangled Banner at this year's Superbowl should be in Chinese - our little way of honoring a truly great democracy...

RE: Well, I'm leaving tuesday (nov. 28th)

Best wishes to you....everything will be just fine...believe in that.

RE: Fishnet Stockings & Stilletos

Well, it's definitely not motorcycles...

RE: The languages of the US

While the Germans could likely not muster an invasion of California, we do have an Austrian running the joint laugh

I understood the context of what was stated in Rich's original post, and also agree with the part that our pledge should remain in English, just as it has always been.

The flipside is, living here in So Cal, that I would like to learn and become fluent in Spanish. I find the Hispanics here a much nicer people than the well-to-do...

RE: Is it ok to ask if anyone has a MySpace site?

Interestingly, since I deleted my account four days ago - there's been a notable decrease in spam. Like, almost none. Go figure...could be a coincidence?

RE: Trying A New Game
