I actually think you are thinking a bit along the same lines but are expressing it differently.
I believe one is thinking "not even water poverty" while the other is thinking broken clothes, "boring food poverty".
To be forced to live one is another. None here would want to be forced into one they do not like if they have the option of choosing, would they?
Real poverty - no people thrive in it and all of them wants out of it. To the extent that they dare dangerous waters in small wooden boats, even though they know hundreds gets lost at sea all the time. What drives them is the chance of getting a job where they can send a 10 Euro bill home a day, more than they would maybe make in a year back home.
