Silly though it sounds, I felt safer in the US walking or riding around alone than I do here. Gun crime in the US is usually personal, so the normal type rarely has much to fear. Saying that, one of my sisters was held at gun point during a robbery when she was just 16.
I find physical violence in the UK is worse and more random than it was in the US... and I lived in many Urban areas in the US.
JMHO...
I do know what you mean about the armed airport security forces, that scares me to see officers carrying those automatic weapons they have.
You are right, physical pain usually ends quickly, but emotional pain tends to stick around for a while and can come back full force under the right conditions.
LOL another reason I miss the good ole USA, no guns here in the UK and to add insult to injury, if some AH breaks into my home and threatens me and I hurt the bas*ard... He can sue me and probably win.
LOL as I opened this thread the skys opened up. No problems, I am meeting someone for the second time this afternoon... off to Scotland later this week for my second CS get together so the world is a wonderful place... even if I am 53.....lol
Happy Memorial day to you... they don't name the holiday's here it is just 2nd May bank holiday Monday... rather boring.
CS is a good place to come and eliminate the stresses and probs of the day. I can usually laugh, sometimes cry, but have actually met some great people from this site in real life.
Thanks money is not an issue, the market here is still falling and may fall another 5-10% in 2008. Builders are dropping prices on new builds by £20-30K, but also new home starts are declining..
Anyone from the UK with an idea? LOL Need to know where I should hang my hat in the next few months.. LOL
My hat is hung is a 4 bed home in the UK.. we are selling to complete our divorce process, but since the market crashed here, the ex is buying me out.
I will be purchasing my own smaller place in the not too distant future. Just can't decide on whether to rent for a while or to buy whilst the market is depressed...
