St Patrick says in his autobiography, the Confessio, says that he was born in 'Bannavem Taburniae' or Bannaventa. Bannaventa was a small Roman settlement in England on the Watling Street Roman road, now known as the A5. It is located in present day Northamptonshire roughly two miles east of the town of Daventry, making our national 'Saint' a Brit. We would sooner believe he was Welsh from Bannavern in Glamorganshire which is now know as Banwen.
I get a great kick out of visualising fuming Christian Brothers down the centuries realising this. Ha ha ha.
