RE: Military History

Splitting hairs, are we? Ha ha. Bin Laden was fighting for Islam not Saudi in particular. They guy who faught to free Saudi, and I should have listed him in the terrorist class, was Thomas Edward Lawrence a.k.a. Lawrence of Arabia, who was a Welsh man.

RE: Military History

If we're talking about military leaders then Collins is definitely in the 'Terrorist Class'. He led a guerrilla war not a conventional one. Put him in with Garabaldi, Mao, Tito, Orde Wingate, Paddy Blair Mayne and of course, bin Laden.

RE: Military History

I know Jim Herlihy wrote a book about he RIC and he is would know if there was any such photo in existence. I don't have his email but I'm sure you can find it someplace. He lives in Blarney, Cork I think.

RE: Military History

I think the RIC records are in the National Archive down near Kevin Street.

RE: Military History

What about bin laden? He brought the entire world to a standstill from a cave in Afghanistan with only a few hundred soldiers?

RE: Military History

Ha ha Lee; they'd love you down in Dixie. You probably don't hear much about him because the yankees went on to write US military history. Rommel also came out on the wrong side and we hear about how great Churchill was even though he marched tens of thousands into futile deaths through his stupidity and ignorance or perhaps something more sinister.

James Mason played him well in this

.. and today we are still fighting over the same sands!!!!

RE: Military History

Caesar was more of a political leader than a military one. Scipio Africanus is still regarded by many as the greatest miltary leader although some say Napoleon or Hannibal. One thing is for sure, the modern Ruperts are little more than civil servants. Lol

EARS-4

Yeah, pity about Alan Hull.

RE: Final Space Shuttle Mission

Sorry Fraya I didn't understand. Are you on a cellphone?

RE: Final Space Shuttle Mission

Yuri Gregarin was the first man in space and to complete an orbit of the Earth on April 12 1961.

John Glen was the first American in space - Feb 20 1962.

The Americans often refer to Glen as the 'first man in space' but as you can see he was ten months behind Gregarin. I suppose they feel that if they repeat it often enough people will start to believe it.

RE: Best Kisser!!

Now you're talking. You'd have to wonder why the kissing would go on longer than necessary to get the other activities underway. Ha ha

RE: Best Kisser!!

A camel in Djibouti I think but I'm not really sure coz I was drunk at the time.... Ha ha

RE: off the smokes

Good man, well done. Don't forget you're only starting out yet. Don't take your eye off the ball over the next months and years or you will end up back on them. I'd say you should stay away from all smokers for a couple of years because even the smell of the smoke could start up the cravings. Anyway, well done up to this point.

RE: Chat up lines...

I'd say any chat up line would fail if it is the sole method of wooing a woman.

RE: Honesty

I think when you are a bishop and the police ask you if you know of any peedos it is definitely wrong to lie.

RE: Protein shakes...

No problem. I'd go for the 90% instantised. It's bland but low in fat and less lactose. If you get a nice fruit to mix it with in the blender you will soon get used to it. The protein shakes you buy in most stores are low in protein and high in fat and lactose. Good luck with it.

RE: Chat up lines...

That's really slick.

RE: Protein shakes...

I get protein from this crowd in England. It's good value and good quality.

The 90% stuff is less tasty than the 80% (really 82%)

I find it best to use water and a bit of fruit in a blender. None of it is nice at the start but eventually they taste fine. I see they have flavoured kinds but I've never tried those. They're probably a lot tastier.

It's delivered by courier in a couple of working days. I think it works out at about 11 euro no matter what you order. I usually get a big order so the courier cost is insignificant.

RE: now this is my kind of music

I can feel a 'Now This is My Knid of Music 64' in the pipeline.

RE: Distance..

Longford or Drumlish? I never stop in Longford anymore but I was at a funeral in Drumlish last year as it happens.

RE: Distance..

Too many minks runnin' around with slash hooks for my liking.

But I'll meet you in the Marquee in Drumlish. If it's good enough for Declan Nerney it's good enough for me. Ha ha

RE: Best guitarist ever?

I only heard 'Jimmy the Weed' was about Manchunian gangster Jimmy Donnelly of the Quality Street Gang. They hung out in his mums place when Phil was a kid.

RE: Distance..

I'd feel a bit more secure knowing I wasn't in Longford.
