Ripple, Yes your right , you cant anymore because the IOC have countries jumping through hoops trying to outdo each other , The IOC demand countries build new you beaut venues when they already have appropriate venues all for the Glory of hosting the games a third world country wont host the games they would never win it they would not have the resources to compete !I believe countries would feel much more pride if money was spent more wisely and the proceeds generate went to help each nations needy , Then there would be a positive outcome not just a gold medal & a new stadium.
Hi Godsgift I am a humanatarian I am involved both physically & finacially with organizations aimed at helping others.I am not begrudging a "few million" Its the excess "BILLIONS" that make me stop think!Each Nation that bids for the games has to give a quote ,the quotes are obvious lies as even with these Olympics they have blown out by 7 Billion dollars !!As I said before, Ive made a personal choice NOT to watch the games , not because I am anti athetes or I am unpatriotic It is simply my conscience and my own moral stance on the needless waste of "excess money" which could go towards helping others. Godsgift I dont believe this makes me "Mean spirited" I believe it makes you part of the problem!
My point was to still hold the olympics just not to make it such an over ostentasious extavaganza , and instead use the excess monies for good will.Does the figgure 9 billion dollars not seem excessive to you all? The olympics have never generated more that the costs to host !London for example is costing billions ! about 7 billion more that they estimated !!! $$$$$7 BILLION DOLLARS over budget,,Yep that seems like a fair price to pay to watch the elite 1% ers win or lose a race for the elite 1%ers , meanwhile a mother puts her children to bed hungry...... Beijing spent 58 BILLION dollars !!! plus dispaces 1 .5 million people but hey all for the the sake of a good show and a 100 shiny medals ...Money well spent ....not

The 2008 Olympics in Beijing finished it for me , an estimated 1.5 million people were forced to move, thier homes bulldozed , their heritage wiped out , they were not compensated they were just destroyed ,If you feel your tax dollars entitle you to enjoy this then by all means please do so ,I for one however feel it is a moral disgrace! No one visits Barcelona to check out the Olympic Park It is a big white elephant. Likewise, tourists will go to Rio for the beaches and beautiful people, not for monuments to state-power and inequality.Not to mention the 2004 games in Athens, Greece. The government spent nearly $16 billion (from a budget of $1.6 billion)(idiots) to pay for new stadiums that are now barely occupied, part of that debt is leading them and possibly the rest of Europe into a downward spiral.
I understand your position and I know each nation is proud of their sporting achievments I just sometimes wish we could celebrate & recognise the people who help humanity instead of those that hurt them. If the millions of dollars was directed to curing cancer or feeding the hungry,sustaining our fragile ecosystem,instead of fanfare and fireworksto show someone can run fast or swim quick shoot straight or jump high....In your heart or hearts which is more important?
I think Its appalling the waste of money spent on the olympic games. These people are not heros, there are sportsmen & women .The heros are the people struggling to feed their families & they are the ones who cant afford the $2400.00 ticket price !
I dont think religious people are happier because most religions , being man made are full of fear and doom however its a very different thing to have faith...with faith comes the reassurance that things are happening as part of your journey & that which ever option or direction you choose is up to you,Sometimes there is no choice but to persevere.Mostly being happy is a choice.

Hi Micky ,sounds like your boss doesnt appriciate his employees ,You have a legal right under the award to know what sick days /annual leave you have owing.You have the RIGHT to insist this information if not on your pay sheet is emailed to you whenever you request it .You also have the right to insist if you do not have access to a computer to be either written too weekly or phoned .You need to make an appointment with your boss and be very clear you are prepare to go above him with your complaints if they are not addressed to your satisfaction.
