Malfidus, your teacher's prediction is amazing only if you do not consider Communism a religion. Of course, since I do, it's just more of the same. The Latin root of religion means a lived philosophy. God is irrelevant. As for the great Chinese threat. They do have the capacity to disrupt economics. If you think they can make China a monolithic state or have already done so, you need to study both history and the Chinese peasant. Communism is an east-coast religion like it is here in the States.
50 years of alarmists. The Nuclear Winter freaks became the Global Warming freaks. Having learned from their previous failing in science, they are now covering themselves by saying the warm up will lead to an Ice Age. I still haven't heard of a rise in sea level in New York harbor; but I have heard of increased snowfall in interior Antarctica that will prevent that. Worse the Religious Left became (after the Pope himself bawled a priest out in South America for backing extremists) the Religious Right and took over the sole remaining valid American party. The only winners: The Press. They had been complaining both parties were the same (responsible).
If this version of the French Dip is the original, how is it I've never seen pre-dipped French Dips anywhere in the world. As it happens I missed this restaurant and everything behind the old Iron Curtain, Australia, and South America.
Global Warming was proposed by many of the same alarmists I-want-to-be-published academics who backed Nuclear Winter. They have a strong modern Luddite following.
In the old days of push-on-push-off the button stayed down when it was on. Now one of my DVD players doesn't even have a little red idiot light, and the remote often misses its mark. I have to assure I turn the TV off last. I won't bother with touch pad controls here.
What is the criterion for having them come up. I thought I saw more than a few without any new posts. I can understand why they might be looked at, even if out of date--newbies learning how to use the site would do that. If that's what pops them up, Cs might want to change the policy.
Einstein said time is a dimension. Therefore nothing ceases to be. And if you try to remember how things were when you were 5, you will realize that the past is as much a mystery as the future.
I rarely watch TV news. The site was quoted from an equally poor source, however, an Internet search. However, I decided they'd gotten the fact that Qatar owned Al-Jazeera right.
But Jesus was named neither in Greek nor Latin. Anyway, to return to original subject, secular socialism as we understand it would not even have been comprehensible to anyone in the Middle East back then. The only few who might begin to understand it, would have been a few fans of the Roman Republic recently replaced. And while they'd philosophically understand the concept of a welfare state; they'd be opposed. Monks of a sort and other religious groups lived in a socialist-like communities, but the laws they lived under were "god given." The idea that any kind of socialism would prevail in general was left to the Second Coming.
You missed the memo on two things here. The Middle East was as messy to deal with 2000 years ago as today and the Israelites always had a number of brigands among them (modern day terrorists) as they later had against the Brits. So it was desirable to avoid swelling those ranks. And I think the prevalent theory is that the Jewish leadership demanded the Romans execute Jesus. I doubt that Pontius Pilate cared one way or the other about the preacher. In fact the nails were the kind way of doing a crucifixion (as opposed to slow asphyxiation like the two tied to either side) and the spear in the side was a gift.
Any disrespect to the flag is disrepect to the military who are expected to die for it, not to those idiots in Congress or even to the President. Period.
The night sky was the only real calendar until a few enturies ago.
There might be a link between certain individuals due to facing the same season in their first year of life--or complementary seasons for being 6 months out, etc. The first years of life have to be critical in establishing biorythms. But that wouldn't apply in opposite hemispheres or at the equator. This would not have been a consideration before air travel or trans-oceanic cruises.
How does this fit in with what your astrology says?
A camel is a horse designed by a committee. It is quite clear that all the current governments are committes. My Bosnian friends tell me Yugoslavia was good under Tito (a Serbian), but the aftermath of his rule proves the weakness in benevolent dictatorships--succession.
I don't think anyone saw this future 100 years ago. It's rather bland. But to be honest the real problem is you see one future. I do not see multiple time streams, but do I see time as more than one dimension (think of the xyz of space). Each present has more than one past and more than one future. Consider the Uncertainty Principle. I don't think viewing something determines what it is; I think viewing something determines which viewer you are. I hope flying cars do happen. We've been waiting for them a long time. But consider how much worse the bad drivers will be. :-)
I have a book on numerology on the bookshelves reserved for religion and superstition. I think astrology may have some basis in biorythms (the stars were the clocks) and other recurring patterns my opinion of numerology is not that high. But I would like to point out that when rocket-scientist worship started after WWII numbers started being assigned to most curious (and unsupportable) things. I'd say there are a lot more numerologists than you think. Guessing statistics and assigning probability on that basis is as much numerology as thinking 7 is a lucky number.
They had the same dream of the future 60 years ago, except the domed cities were on Mars. The flying cars are nothing new although they didn't happen--optimism about energy sources proved unrealistic. Global Warming is this decade's nonsense (or was that last decade?).
If you agree with the other posters in this thread, I agree with your father that he shouldn't talk to you about it. Vietnam was three countries before the French stuck it all together. The later partition cut the unnatural amalgum in half. The good guys fled south but the Commies stayed in the south and became Vietnam. That there was a wholesale slaughter after the Americans left as well as brain wasing camps (re-education) is no surprise. Enough said. You people are too uneducated.
If we are in a computer-generated reality, what reality is it within? Under Occam's Razor there's no reason to believe this. That we don't understand the reality we ARE in goes without saying. There's lots of stupidity out there--traditional superstitions as well as Max Tegmark.
The choice doesn't exist. Per Einstein time is a dimension. Our experience of it is an illusion. We're all immortal. And that life you led will always be as it was.

RE: a billion year from now
How about: Mars looks like the moon; Earth looks like Mars; Venus looks like Earth?
