RE: OBAMA HYPE - COULD LINIENCY BE WEAKNESS

Looks like you gave StressFree some real stress SV..........

Better take it easy on the young man.

RE: OBAMA HYPE - COULD LINIENCY BE WEAKNESS

I am just recalling what the president of Iran said to the United Nations while speaking in New York City about a year ago.

Get real. Loose the idealism.

RE: OBAMA HYPE - COULD LINIENCY BE WEAKNESS

As I said, I realize it is a difficult concept for many to understand..

And history does demonstrate it.

But never let facts stand in the way of your opinion. BTW, instead of attacking me on the grounds of my age, why not try refuting the facts. Try to responding to Iran's repeated statements to the world about Israel, gays, nuclear arms, and respond to the facts history has demonstrated. Sitting down to talk with a bullly or a power monger will not accomplish much.

And oh yeah the younger generations really 'gets' it. I know.

Reminds me of the "new"economy of the dot com era. Before the "new" economy went down in flames.

RE: bye

What is so hard about quitting heroin?

I have done it dozens of times!

(Is joke OK? No need for the DEA to contact me. Just a joke. A little joke.)

RE: OBAMA HYPE - COULD LINIENCY BE WEAKNESS

And what do you think Iran and North Korea would like to say to the United States????

Iran, North Korea and the rest or our "enemies" have not been that shy or reticent about their desires.

Iran: "Wipe Israel off the map. Convert to Islam or die!"

Yeah, that will takes us a long way towards peace.

Ya know, sometimes you have to go to war to create peace. I know that is a difficult concept for many, but it has been proven over and over in the past.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

RE: OBAMA HYPE - COULD LINIENCY BE WEAKNESS

Funny, funny, funnnny.

Feels good to smile and chuckle JJ.

I love Obummer too- can I take a couple of throws?

RE: smells

Roses, Lilacs, Irises

Coffee and bacon.

RE: anybody good with electrics?

Yeah Trish, I think it is worth a try. I don't know what your electrical supply set up is- you had talked about a fuse and aluminum foil and so on. I would not try anything that would defeat the circuit protection. Be sure to use a correct sized fuse, in case the motor and controls do not function properly, you will want the power to shut off ASAP. You know?

RE: anybody good with electrics?

Well yeah, if the emptying hose (or drain hose) came off, that could sure flood your kitchen alright. That water is supposed to be pumped into your kitchen sink, not all over the floor.

And the new sink installation may definitely have had something to do with it too.

So try attaching the drain hose, clean away all the laundry detergent soap, and try it again. You may have found the problem, but the laundry soap and the flooding might have soaked the motor or controls and require a tech to repair.

You really shouldn't substitute soaps because of the way each on is formulated. Laundry soaps often have fabric softeners, which you don't necessarily want on your dishes. Automatic dish soap has clorine in it to disinfect which you wouldn't want on your clothes. Dish soap suds up way too much for automatic dishwashers. and so on.

If the motor and controls flooded, it is possible they will dry and work OK, but may not too.

Sorry to report the bad news.

BTW, the drain hose from the dishwasher is supposed to be run or routed up to the height of the top of the sink (while still under the cabinet), so that in the event the sink isn't draining correctly at some point in the future, the hose won't siphon the water from the sink back down into the dishwashing machine. Make sense??

RE: Tragedy and comedy

I think the mind can overcome feelings actually. Most people don't realize it because it takes practice, but each of us can learn to control our thoughts. We don't have to live each day a prisoner of our thoughts.

You know: mind over matter, type of thing. If you have painful thought, and you have recognized it and given it due consideration, and don't want to dwell on it anymore, then just work to think of other things. Think of things you enjoy or that bring you peace.

People also start a task or a project to "get their mind off something" or "keep their mind occupied". And when the painful or unwanted thought crosses your mind, just eliminate it each time by thinking of something you want to.

So yes, the mind can beat the feelings if you work on it and practice that.

As far as a tradgedy or comedy goes, how about this: "Life may not be fun, but it can be funny......"

RE: anybody good with electrics?

What kind of soap did you substitute? You wrote normal soap powder? You mean laundry deterget?

Parctically all soaps are specialized for their particular application: hand soap, dish soap, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent ect. So depending what kind of soap you used, that may help determine what went wrong. You know?

RE: HATE IN THE AGE OF OBAMA

Good point. I agree.

I really suspect Obama's race did help him get elected with those liberals that carry a guilty conscience and also need to perceive themselves as 'hip'.

BTW, how do you manage living there in Massachusetts, thinking clearly like you do, and coping with representation by Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, and John Kerry?

I guess you have great coping skills Bosmike.

RE: kenyucky derby

Yeah!!

This is great! Really really cool turn of events. Always nice to see a little guy win big, huh.

RE: IS OBAMA AT FAULT FOR THE MESS WE ARE IN?

Not exactly an objectively worded poll. At all.

Let's see..........6 choices that Obama inherited the situation. No choice that he had anything to do with it as a Democratic Senator.

Let me think...................................... Pretty rotten, one-sided, manipulative, liberal leaning, Obama loving, slanted, poll that seeks to distort. Huh.

About par for Left Wing nuts

RE: would you sleep with me

I would say more narcissistic than brave.

RE: 3 men on a hike...

Oh funny funny RK. VERY WITTTY my friend.

Someday I will think of some wise thing like that to say. Come high water or hell.

RE: 3 men on a hike...

Thanks for the flower Sandie!

You are very sweet, and that was nice gesture. No need to feel bad, I wish I would have thought a little more before I wrote that absent minded comment.

No victims or hurt feelings here. You keep on, making people smile.

RE: 3 men on a hike...

No..... you're not in for it. I probably should not have written my comment.

It was just a casual observation by me, and really, I am not hurt or upset or anything.

I just notice a lot of jokes about men. Usually white guys. We are the target. And it is OK in that I don't really care that much or get hurt by it. I just noted it.

You tell some pretty funny jokes actually starshinebright. Keep shining.

RE: Whats different Honey?

Speaking of duck hunters......

A duck hunter shoots a duck that falls onto a farmer's barn, slides down the roof and lands in the farmer's yard. So the hunter climbs over the fence into the yard to retrieve it.

The farmer sees this guy climbing into his yard, and so the farmer steps out onto his porch and yells; "What do you think your doing?" And the hunter says" I am just retrieving my duck."

The farmer says:" Your duck? That isn't your duck- it's mine". Hunter says: "Your duck? I shot it- It's my duck." Farmer says: " You don't understand property rights do you. It was my barn, my roof, my yard, and my duck."

Hunter says: "Give me a break! I just came out from the city to do a little duck hunting. I haven't seen many ducks, and I only have this one!"

Farmer: " You're from the city? Well, I know how we can settle this.... We can settle this Country Style."

Hunter: "What's Country Style?"

Farmer: " We take turns kicking each other in the groin. When one of us has had enough, the other wins."

Hunter: " OK...I guess... if that's what I gotta do!"

Farmer: "I go first!"

So the farmer goes and kicks the hunter as hard as he can in the groin and the hunter goes down in agony, rolling around, moaning, groaning and thrashing. After about half an hour, he regains his composure, stands up, straightens, and says: " Well...... I guess it's my turn now!"

Farmer: " Naw.....that's OK..... you can have the duck."

RE: HATE IN THE AGE OF OBAMA

OK.

Other than what I wrote about the variables that I thought could trigger extremists, I don't think there is very much to debate.

I don't think race is much of a factor. Conservatives would be happy to have a black man as President if he promoted traditional American values. So the concern is not race in my view, it is ideology and values. I think Conservatives are upset about Obama's ideology, not his race.

RE: HATE IN THE AGE OF OBAMA

Hard to say. I don't think Obama's race will trigger any significant rise in activities from extremist groups these days. But his ideology and the economy might. I think it depends on how extreme the Obama administration becomes with all the Left wing apologizing for America, the Socialism, the government regulations and whatever else the Democrat Administration, Democrat Congress, and the Democrat Senate try to force on the other 48% of the Americans who voted Conservative.

And I have noticed, during the Bush years, there was an extreme amout of venom sent towards President Bush's administration, even though the economy was growing. I hadn't seen so much hatred and intolerance towards a Presidential administration probably since Watergate. Left wing extremist groups such as Acorn, sprang up during Bush's term, but unless Obama really tries to force the country into Socialism, I wouldn't expect too much extremism.

Kind of an example of Left Wing media bias, that that Newsweek decided to post the question.

Remember was makes Conservatives angry: Telling them a lie.
What makes Liberals angry: Telling them the truth.

RE: MASS SHOOTING

I sound like an idiot?
I value myself in not being one.
Violence will always exist. I am not saying that banning guns will solve much, there will always be a way around it.
What I am trying to get across is however, that your society is liable.
If it weren't of a higher intensity in the States, my argument would be void.
Look at all the instances, if all I do today is make one person realize that negligence of society played a part in this, I'll be happy.
It's stationary views like yours that fuels this absolutely useless argument.
It's a case of we must fight the enemy by being armed the same as them without ever thinking why they became an enemy in the first place.
It's dealing with the problem from ground level without ever trying to seek out it's roots.

You tgtstw,

It is nice to desire to get to the root of the violence, but, from my viewpoint, a person needs to be realistic more than they need to be idealistic.

If you have a murderous person who has decided to kill you and others for whatever reason, there isn't much that can be done except remove the threat.

Why do Muslim fundamentalists want to kill everyone who is not a Muslim?? You can think about that and make your conclusion, but it doesn't change the situation.

Why do people full of hate want to kill classmates, teachers, police, you, and anyone else? Because they were bullied at some point? Fine, try to stop kids from being bullies. But once a person emerges as a killer, you have to stop them.

So try to be more realistic. Life will be easier.

RE: I am amazed.....

That is the dumbest thing I have read on these forums. Where do you get this??
You are unbelievable to say the least!

RE: I am amazed.....

bradlee: "And did YOU not know that Bush called a meeting less than 30 days after assuming the duties as president to plan for the invasion of Iraq. That was before 9-11. Bush began planning this war before he ever became president as payback for Hussein's attempt to assassinate his father!

WMDs just gave him the excuse he was looking for, and ignored all proof that there were no WMDs at all."

Lights: As I said, most of the world believed Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Bill Clinton believed it and so did most of Europe and Iran too. So, Bush never had to create an excuse. There was no "proof' WMD did not exist. Where are you getting that??

Saddam thumbed his nose and igored the UN sanctions and no fly zones for over ten years TEN YEARS!. He would not let UN WMD inspectors freely inspect inside Iraq. In short, he did everything he could to dis the UN. Bush came into the White House and showed some backbone and stopped the non-sense.

I don't buy your theory that Bush invaded Iraq just as "as payback for Hussein's attempt to assassinate his father!" You need to do better than that. That is just your conspiracy theories running amok.

RE: MASS SHOOTING

Come on Rocket Queen- you are better than this.

When it comes to mass shooting, there is no fine line between law-abiding citizens and criminals. Stop being so idealistic about sociopaths and murderers! It isn't that complicated.

There might be a fine line on a traffic offense, but not on mass murderers!

BTW, I never said anything about me having to use my gun if attacked and what I would do. I spoke only about the educational institutions.

Of course if I was attacked by an armed mass murderer, I am sure I could talk them out of shooting me, and I know I would never need any gun for that. Yeah right. You go ahead and believe that.

RE: Clone Obama.....

Thanks for your advisement, but maybe you should think about suing the Doctor who performed yours.

RE: MASS SHOOTING

Same thing can be said for knives, hammers, baseball bats, pneumatic nail guns, and many many more items.

Guns are good for killing. That is what they are basically made for, but the domain of lethal items is certainly not limited to guns. And people don't often understand how dangerous these other items can be either.

But you're right that guns are lethal. They are so exclusively constructed for sending out a projectile, that I personally can't help but pause frequently when I am shooting, and try to really get my mind around the power to project that they can create. It is hard at times to completely grasp that. The distance they can shoot, how fast the bullet moves, the pressures created in the chamber. They can hurt you in a lot of ways. But so can a kitchen knife. Or a car.

I remember a movie a few years ago where a serial killer would execute people with a scuba tank and special valve. He would hit the release on the valve, and the 5,000 lb air pressure in the tank would throw a bolt size projectile flying through the air that would blow the lock right off a door. Very very deadly. He probably used that because he had prior convictions and couldn't buy a gun. But I sure would want a gun if I was ever around someone like that.

RE: MASS SHOOTING

RQ- thanks for the correction on Harris and Klebold. But I don't think of it as us versus them. I am viewing it as anyone of us, who decides for whatever reason, to start killing people. That is all. Whomever becomes a lethal threat.

Where did I indicate an us versus them viewpoint? I guess when I mentioned Harris and Klebold, but I only used that because it was so widely circulated. There have been many instances in the last 15 years or so, around the world really, of people, just deciding they were going to kill a lot of people.

RE: MASS SHOOTING

Psychology is an imperfect field- you can never really know what is in a person's mind, and I don't think we want to become 'thought' police.

So, we will probably always have those with mental illneses of one kind or another. And a person who is healthy one day, may not be the next.

So, we have to be able to defend ourselves and loved ones when someone does snap. So I think we should arm certain people in the institution. That's how it was handled in the past basically. Don't tell the Klebolds and Dylans of the school who has the automatic pistols, but have some competent people who are trained and able to respond quickly and take away the threat.

Life is imperfect and always will be.

RE: steve buscemi

Interesting.

Just shows to go ya, truth is stranger than fiction.

History! You just can't make some of this stuff up!

That movie Resevoir Dogs was another powerful and Dark drams wasn't it.

I remember that movie sticking with me for quite a while after. Kept coming back to me.
