RE: Why do women smoke, when they spend a fortune on makeup

Thank you, Merri! My youngest daughter tells me I think too much. She says I should think less and live more.

RE: Why do women smoke, when they spend a fortune on makeup

Talk about issues! No wonder OPie is desperately seeking! I have to wonder what he's actually seeking (besides a medal for being such a successful troll and agitator). He's obviously a misogynist. Maybe he's finally admitted to himself that he prefers men and is trying to find a justification for his "turning".

Stress ages us quickly and without great genes, we're doomed. The junk floating around in the air damages our skin as much as (if not more than) smoking does. The same stuff that coats the windows of our homes and vehicles is also on our skin.

If women have insecurities which they're trying to hide with makeup, it's because men are visual creatures who demand perfection in their "trophy". That's been going on since the dawn of human existence. Today's media promotes that idea because it sells all types of products for retailers.

Smoking is an addiction which is not easy to overcome. Most of us smokers started smoking during that phase of our youth in which we believe we're invincible. By the time we discover we've made a mistake, we're hooked. Old habits die hard, and sometimes the end result (and the journey) just aren't worth the effort for us mentally.

Let's face it; we're human. We all have faults, quirks, problems (some more than others). If every person took as great care of themselves as some (including Opie) think we should, we'd all live much longer, and think how crowded this planet would be then!

RE: Who is More faithful

People are faithful. People cheat. One gender is no more or no less likely to cheat than the other. It's a stereotype. Faithful women think men cheat more often. Faithful men think women cheat more often. Cheaters of both genders see nothing wrong with cheating and wonder why the faithful make such a fuss about it.

RE: I want to hear my Daughter's Heart Beat One Last Time!

Thanks, DF, for the story. Brought tears to my eyes. What I wouldn't give to hear my daughter's heart beating again. Parents aren't supposed to outlive their children.

RE: Daiting Disaster after 20 year lul

Don't sweat the small stuff (or people) OPie. That type of behavior is rude, ignorant, and causes the recipient pain, but you can't lose faith in yourself or lose hope for the human race. Thank heaven, everyone isn't like that. Wait until stuff like that happens once you become a member of the over-50 crowd (like me). It's happened. I've learned to laugh at the immature behavior. I refuse to stoop to their level. I also refuse to give them the satisfaction of knowing they were able to hurt me.

RE: Hello boys and girls!!

Welcome back! Nice to meet you! It hasn't changed. The patients are still in charge of the asylum.

RE: A forum fave has cancer & is bleeding & won't go to the ER.

Dearest "forum fav",

If you won't go to the ER for yourself, then please allow me to be selfish. Do it for those of us here who are terribly concerned and who would be in a great deal of pain if anything happened to you. We would miss you terribly and the forums simply wouldn't be the same without you.

RE: Which one could you not go without...Cable or Internet?

I haven't watched real TV in 10 years (have an extensive DVD library), so doing without cable (or satellite) is no problem. I've lived a total of 2 years in the last 20 without being online. I survived.

RE: ladies, would you keep a mouse as a pet?

I've had a lot of pets (besides dogs and cats) over the years. Mice, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, a 4-foot iguana, hooded rats, snakes. My middle daughter had mice, moles, raccoons, and opossums in our barn that would come when she called them and eat out of her hand.

RE: Do you believe some pharmecutical companies have a motto of "prevent, don't cure" for profits sake?

They don't prevent disease. They treat it. And they certainly don't want it cured.

Why would they destroy their own profits by allowing diseases to be cured? It's more profitable to treat than to cure. I've heard it from drug reps before. No drug company, no matter what public image they portray, would willingly give away their power by curing any disease.

I read a story last year about a man who was diagnosed with cancer. After doing some research, he left the country for treatment. When he returned a year later, there was no evidence of the cancer. His own doctor performed the tests verifying that the cancer was gone. The doctor then turned around and sued the man for nearly half a million dollars. That was the amount of money the doctor lost by not treating the man.

Sad.

Life Savers

Actually, Life Savers candy was first created in 1912 by Clarence Crane, a Cleveland, Ohio, candy maker and father of the famed poet Hart Crane. Crane developed a line of hard mints but did not have the space or machinery to make them. He contracted with a pill manufacturer to press the mints into shape. The pill manufacturer, whose machinery was malfunctioning, found that the pressing process worked much better when the mints were stamped with a hole in the middle.

Life Savers

The children in the class began to identify the Life Saver flavors by their color:

Red......................Cherry
Yellow...................Lemon
Green....................Lime
Orange ..................Orange

Finally the teacher gave them all HONEY lifesavers. None of the children could identify the taste. The teacher said, 'I will give you all a clue. It's what your mother may sometimes call your father.'

One little girl looked up in horror, spit her lifesaver out and yelled, 'Oh my God! They're a**hole!'

The teacher had to leave the room.

RE: weather

Weather definitely effects my mood. I'm at my most peaceful during storms (rain or snow) and at night while walking or riding horses in the woods. I don't deal well with heat, so I'm not in a very good mood when I'm uncomfortable from the heat.

RE: Thanks to all

Congrats to you both! Make sure you post some pics of the happy day next year so we can all celebrate with you!

RE: Captain Matchbox

The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band was an Australian band, active throughout the 1970s. It was based in Melbourne and centered around singer and multi-instrumentalist Mic Conway ("Captain Matchbox") and his brother Jim Conway, who is widely regarded as one of Australia's finest exponents of the blues harmonica.

Inspired by early jazz recordings and the jug band music they heard on reel-to-reel tapes as teenagers, they formed a band which grew within a couple of years from an underground art school band to a national icon, with film and television appearances and regular appearances in the charts. Their debut LP Smoke Dreams (1972) was released in the USA and was also issued in the quadraphonic format. Their second LP Wangaratta Wahine featured a cover illustration by noted Australian cartoonist Michael Leunig.

The brothers continued the group through many lineup changes until a tragic truck crash while on tour in 1979 which ruined the band financially and emotionally, and after paying off their debts they disbanded.

Mic Conway continues to record and perform regularly, both as a solo artist and with his National Junk Band. Jim Conway has also worked on many musical projects and remains a sought-after soloist, although in recent years his health (but not his playing )has been significantly affected by the onset of Multiple Sclerosis. He now uses a wheelchair and has formed his dream band Jim Conways Big Wheel.

RE: What Country Appeals To YOU?

It's been a dream of mine for decades to visit Egypt. I'd also like to spend time in the UK for research for my book on the architecture and artistry of castles.

RE: any honeys up to talk?

No more strange than when a man talks to a woman's breasts.

RE: The Queen is asking for a handout!!!

As of 2009, HM is not the richest woman in the world.

"As of 2009, Christy Walton of Wal-Mart was the richest woman in the world with a net worth of $20 billion. While the Queen is wealthy, she is the 12th richest monarch of the world with the King of Thailand being the wealthiest."

According to a list I viewed, unless things have changed in the last few years, the Queen didn't even make the top 10 wealthiest women in the world.

RE: Has man corrupted the Bible through the years?

Man's interpretation of events was the initial corruption. The major damage (world wide) to any religious text is organized religion itself. Organized religion corrupts everything it touches. The corruption may be well hidden behind a veil of saintly endeavors, but the corruption is there.

RE: Well, the sun is shining

Will someone please send some rain to western PA? My spring went dry 2 weeks ago and I'm so sick of carrying water and taking baths in the local swimming hole.

RE: "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books

Those books are great. I've got a few. My favorite is "Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover's Soul", but horses are one of my passions.

RE: Miracle mineral solution

If the stuff really works, the US government will never allow its existence to become general knowledge here. There are already cures out there for all kinds of diseases, but they're not allowed in the US. The drug companies are too powerful. It's more profitable to treat a disease than to cure it. Drug companies (and the government) don't care how many people die when a cure is available. Like most things in this life, it all boils down to the almighty dollar. And it's not a conspiracy theory; it's just the way things are in this warped world.

RE: Happy Birthday Hjfinaz....................

Happy Birthday, young man!!!! party

RE: Missing Puzzle Pieces

Thank you, Sassy, for putting it out here for us all to enjoy. I happened to read your story just when I had decided to give up on finding my last love. You've convinced me to hang on a bit longer. Who knows, maybe even this old woman will find her love. Stranger things have happened!

Congrats to you both!

RE: What's your favorite Book?

Dostoyevsky
Proust

RE: Have you ever went Skinny dipping?

Thanks, demonfairy. It's only tough when it comes to heating water for bathing grandkids and doing dishes. I spent years hauling 60 gallons of water ever day for my horses, so I'm used to that part. I can only hope it rains soon and for a couple days.

RE: Hotrodlarrys????New Or Old?

Welcome back, Larry! Missed you!

RE: Have you ever went Skinny dipping?

Used to go skinny dipping all the time when I was a kid. My spring went dry 2 weeks ago and I go skinny dipping now at the local swimming hole so I can at least have a bath. It's a bit chilly at midnight this time of year, but it makes for a quick bath.

A girlfriend and I used to go skinny dipping on horseback when we'd go for a midnight ride. Pretty boring without any guys along, but it was something to do.

RE: Why don´t some people reply???

When I first joined CS, I tried to politely respond to even those I had no interest in. More often than not, I was called vile names and often received more than one reply to my response. Delete, ignore, and block became my friends.

RE: Old-Fashioned Ideas...

And what's wrong with darning socks in front of the fire? It's quite relaxing! I haven't darned socks in a number of years, but I still have my darning eggs! Now I like to sit in front of the fire and knit or crochet.
