Should the feature be removed or not is for the ones with more thinking time on the subject than me to decide. 
Some of the best dreams have not seen the light of day. they were immobilized from fear.
I did not have a picture up for months. And slowly but surely I put one up a little at a time. Fear is why. Fear of people saying "ewww" fear of pics being out on the internet. I still got mail so I stayed. I did not post on the forums for awhile. When I started posting I became comfortable so that helped me to put up a pic. I remember going to our local park to meet a guy who had contacted me when I had no pic. The funny thing is he had a pic so I had an idea of who I was looking for. There was a woman who looked about fifteen years older than me, alot shorter and quite wider there and he was talking to her. She was upset. He thought it was me and she was confused 
He turned and seen me and when I spoke the next words out of his mouth were " Wow you are one classy looking woman" not sure if that was a compliment or not To make a long story even longer he had shrank by about four inches (seems to happen alot when you take them from the net to the tactile world something transpires and they shrink ) and he smoked which he told me he did not. I could of gotten past those things. But he had hair growing out of his ears so long it could of been used for a diving board at the local pool. pics are just decoration. Some people really have legit reasons. I am under contract and can only say ever so much about my job on the net or news etc....does that mean I do not have a legit job? My poor ol tired body begs differ I know I work. 
Do as you please. Think as you please. It does not change what is the truth. You take chances on the internet, in real life. You have to decide what chances. But don't slight people and see everyone as evil who does not have a pic. That is painting your picture not theirs and you seem like to smart a person for that. 
But I will try at first. This is just what I have found for me
A blanket statement such as the op has made says very little about the subject and so much about the op. Is she a bad person? Is she just having a bad moment in life? I would venture to say she is just having a bad moment. To have to live in such a negative thought pattern is sad. I have had negative thoughts and I know they own the person not the other way around. Maybe she just needs a great big ol hug? Please when I am not pleasing to you still hug me. I will need a hug more then than I do when I am pleasing 
And if they are going to ask us out. I also say to those who ask my phone number "Why are you going to call me?" the grandchildren love it when I do that.
We are also fun and loving. Don't have to single us out we pretty well know it You are right about survival. Even here I know I can go out to the everglades if need be and survive. Not all here would know what they could eat and could not. My dad was like archie bunker he always thought we were going to be invaded so he gave us coping skills now a days they don't think that way. That is why I have no problem staying during the storms. If I can survive the actual storm and so far so good on that one I can survive the after math. No electric etc.....
You needed to be in my area. You can see them crossing the streets sometimes. And yep I imagine we do have our share of undesirable people. I must say we are a breed of our own here
So far in my area they have only drained I think four lakes because of them in the last two years. Yet that is how the love bugs came to be. at first just a couple and then a whole season now. Since we don't have four seasons here we have named one lovebug season.
Then I fell asleep while looking at the water and am red as an apple I seen a guy one time go to kiss a wild gator needless to say he almost lost his whole nose. The machine gun might be a good choice. Their skin is quite thick. That is what happened to me. Thought I had killed it went to grab it by the tail and it was mad At least my dog was ok couple of stitches. Now we have people who have set loose Piranha. We have drained a couple of lakes to get rid of them. What are these people thinking???? If you come to Florida I will protect you 
Keep in mind we have some tornados. And we are the lightening capital. Now why have I remained here all these years? 
Always got a spare room for you if you care to visit . We have reptiles that cannot survive the cold. And I know you would enjoy seeing them. Also we have a thing in Florida called love bugs. Please if you come take them with you when you go
