wash2u: Friends of mine stayed in a place very reasonable and only a short walk to the city. And very close to Bridge Street, the 'other' fashion centre of Melbourne. Will have a look tomorrow when in there to get details.
St Kilda is something else. Has nightlife (of many different kinds), the Paladeum Theatre, Luna Park and a decent walk out into the Bay, Sunday craft markets, and the ferry ride over to Williamstown markets on a Sunday. And good for a "gay old time." There are trams and a light rail into the city.
But would not advise walking back from a night out in the city. Lot of 'empty' space along the way.
Wood appreciate that wash it will be very helpful for us out of towners don't wanna be too far from that great city of yours St Kilda sounds rather colourful

Well I would help you out Curly and the rest but I have the navigation skills of a dead penguin trying to get to the south pole to meet Santa!!
But I do know St Kilda used to be a hot spot no idea now as Ive only been in Melbourne 18 months after Tasmania and New Zealand so Frankston Pier is exciting to me
And to the kind gentleman that said he loved my pictures a big thank you, as I have had many abusive mail and rudeness from people about them, but as I say to them " Suck it up princess" or "would you like a cup of concrete to harden the FFFF up"

aquariusmoon: I love the music. This looks like a great night out...may be tempted myself
Not sure if anyone could walk off the street on the Saturday night as it seems that it would be very popular place to go. Might have to be organised for the Friday night.
