Heading back to the USA for Halloween 2025.

I am heading back to see my friend in Virginia. I'm very excited, because now I know sort of what to expect, and most importantly: How much money to bring. The last time, I brought $1200 with me for one week. When I came home, I had $700 left, so I now know that I will need at least $500 for a week. However, I will most likely bring the same amount with me as I did the first time. This time, I will do a lot more shopping. I only bought two pairs of shoes and some souvenirs for the family the last time I was there, so hopefully I will splurge a bit more this time. I need hoodies. The ones here are boring and expensive. The ones in the US are cheap and not boring at all. I had the chance to buy one when I went to the airport on my way home, but at $70, I said "nah". Judging by the amount of money I had with me home, I could have bought one. Next time I will not be as stingy as I was the first time.

That also means it'll be my second time flying long-haul. The last time, I went with Lufthansa. As I described in my post-USA holiday blog, I will not be flying with them again. I am most likely going to pick SAS, seeing as they have a direct flight to Dulles from Copenhagen, and it'll be cheaper than my previous flight, although not by much. I am saving a few hundred kroner, but it'll save me the giant headache that is changing flight in a different airport. Nothing against layovers, but sometimes they cut it WAY too close. To the point where you literally have to run in order to catch the next connecting flight. By flying direct, it'll save me a bunch of time and stress.

So yes - I am heading back over the Atlantic next year. There's one year and 6 months left, until my trip, so patience is key. Once we enter November, I will book the trip. By then I should have saved up enough money for the trip. I also need my good camera, because Halloween in the USA is bound to be fantastic!

I look forward to it!

Bling-Bling...

Bling-bling aka Bling is the wearing of flashy (expensive often ostentatious) jewelry. Bling can also be the addition of car options, like chrome hood ornaments, oversized tire rims with low-profile tires, literally any means of getting attention, usually to show off wealth.
Note: Wealth and good taste don't necessarily go together.

A friend who I fly model aircraft with, loves to wheel-and-deal (he calls horse trading) helicopters, motors, canopies and hardware upgrades. He scans the merchandise for sale on a few sites always looking for a deal.

Last week, he attended a fun fly and bought a model the owner crashed... really cheap. He was able to take out the working parts, listed them on a site and doubled his money selling the parts individually.

He's become an expert knowing what models can be modified and often builds for friends. In the last few years, he's repaired or built a few models for me. He owns a machine that cuts templates by computer control. He feeds an image in his computer and the machine using a thin blade cuts out custom signage and logos on colored sticky-back sheets.

Some of the flyers go to him to add some Bling to their models. Maybe a larger logo or wrapping parts with multi colors. Lets say the canopy is red with white stripes, he can customize the sides, boom and tail fins with matching graphics to the owner's specification.

I dislike building, so it was easier to buy a completed model from him customized to my specifications and while we don't normally use the term Bling, I Blinged-out one model with bright yellow to make it easier to see when it's far away.

Bling-Bling... happening in a city near you!

What made Mickey mouse unique?

He was the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He represented wholesome values of kindness and innocence.
He was courageous and intelligent.
He survived death after being hit with a mallet.
But he knew that his destiny was Disney world, and that one day his followers would be able to join him there and experience the fantasy that he played his part in creating.

The Never Trumpers...

For years, Jordan Klepper from the Daily Show brought out the best (and worst) of the mindset in voters. I've seen episodes of him at Trump rallies, trying to find logic with the illogical and how he exposed people with total contradictions in their belief about the candidates.
This episode is about Nikki Haley supporters just days before she suspended her campaign after losing in Super Tuesday.
Titled KLEPPER VS. "NEVER TRUMPERS" Jordan, interviews some die-hard Haley supporters who said they would never vote for Trump again. When asked who they would vote for if Haley dropped out... well, their answers are surprising.

Deciding on a blog category had me thinking. Although it's political, it's also comedy, about society, opinionated, lifestyle and more.
I'll go with entertainment.

The Newfie got pulled over by the police and when the cop approached his car, he could smell booze coming from the Newfie. The cop asked "are you drinking tonight sir?" The Newfie replied "yes I am, I had 6 shots of whiskey, 4 rum and cokes, and 3 beers. The cop said "sir, can you step out of your vehicle for me and do a breathalyzer test for me please".
The Newfie said "WHY? DON'T YOU BELIEVE ME?"

The Newfie was in court on the charge of public intoxication causing a disturbance.

The judge looked down at the Newfie and said "alcohol and alcohol alone is the reason for your sorry state today."

The Newfie replied "oh thank god for that, everyone else says its my fault."

The Newfie met up with his buddy at the bar. His buddy asked "Where were ya to by?" Newfie replied "I been in the lockup the last few weeks". His friend says "Really? What was the charges?"
Newfie replies "No charges, it was all free"

This happened in a little town in Newfoundland, and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it's absolutely true!
This guy was on the side of the road hitch-hiking on a very dark night in the middle of a terrible rain storm. The night was rolling and no cars were on the road. The storm was so strong the guy could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly, he saw a car come toward him and stop.
The guy, without thinking about it, got in the car and closed the door and only then did he realize that there was nobody behind the wheel!
The car started to move very slowly. The guy looked at the road and saw a curve coming his way. Petrified, he started to pray, begging for his life.
He had not come out of shock when, just before the car hit the curve, a hand suddenly appeared through the window and moved the wheel.
The guy, now paralyzed in terror, watched how the hand appeared every time the car was approaching a curve. Finally, although terrified, the guy managed to open the door and jump out of the spooky car.
Without looking back, the guy ran through the storm all the way to the nearest town. Soaking wet, exhausted and in a state of utter shock the pale, visibly shaken guy, walked into a nearby bar and asked for two shots of Screech.
Then, still trembling with fright, he started telling everybody in the Bar about the horrible experience he just went through with the spooky car with no driver and the mysterious hand that kept appearing.
Everyone in the bar listened in silence and became frightened, listening to this eerie story; hairs stood on end when they realized the guy was telling the truth because he was crying and he definitely was not drunk.
About half an hour later two guys walked into the same bar and one said to the other, "Lard Tunderin' Jaysus, me boy, there's the jerk who got into the car while we was pushing it!"

No more trips to the beach boys

The management team of Brian Wilson has petitioned to place him in a conservatorship because of his mental decline and the recent death of his wife, Melinda Ledbetter Wilson, who managed his daily life.

The 81-year-old Beach Boys co-founder and mastermind has a “major neurocognitive disorder” and is taking medication for dementia, according to a doctor’s declaration filed with the petition Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

ZELENSKY & GREEK PM Russian attack

Whilst holding meeting in Odessa, Zelensky and Greek PM witness nearby explosion following Russian missile attack. A bit dangerous, because if the Greek PM had suffered in any way, Greece being a NATO member, could have triggered a big response. Yes. War with NATO.

WARNING: CONTENTS EXTREMELY HOT!

There are people in this world who lack common sense. Many of them don't read instructions before operating machinery or doing things deemed dangerous/careless by other members of society.
I recall a story about a woman who bought a motor-home, gets on the highway, turns on cruise control. She gets up from the driver's seat to go back and make a cup of coffee and the vehicle runs off the road crashing and injuring the woman.
Obviously, she assumed cruise control was auto-pilot. Lady, it's a motor-home and not a Boeing 747.
I'm sure vehicle manufacturers have added warnings on the control and increased the owner's handbook warning.
Sometimes, their stupidity actually pays off. Take the case of the 79 year old woman who was negligent and spilled hot McDonalds coffee on her lap while in her car causing 3rd degree burns that required skin grafting and 2 years of medical treatment. Stupidly McDonalds didn't want to pay her $20,000 medical expenses and settle. The woman's attorney sued and got her millions.
After... you guessed it, all the McDonalds coffee cups and lids now have explicit warnings.
It happened again to an 85 year old woman who placed the cup in the car's drink holder, drove to an appointment and parked. She claims the lid wasn't put on correctly and ALL of the coffee spilled on her when she started to drink it. I do hope McDonalds had better lawyers for that case.

So the next time you decide to watch that bag of microwave popcorn puff up while cooking, Take my advice and stand back. You're done when the popping is nearly stopped... Otherwise being too close the door and some spurious radiation leaks out it could be your eyeballs that will puff up.
While on the subject of microwave radiation, NEVER try to dry your pet inside a microwave oven. The results would be alarming.
