Well, no, my definition of restriction is exactly the same, as yours: you want something, but don't pursue it.
The difference, perhaps, in what I consider "wise". I'm totally at piece with sitting at my desk and working all day long, despite that the day is sunny and the wind is mild and I'd rather go paddling. (Oh, if only I could make a living by paddling )
I do like my job, it fits me well, but on a sunny day it isn't my first choice. Though a wise one.
Here is a presentation by Dr Lustig, that explains quite a lot about processed food and sugar. Don't let the length (1 h 20 min) scare you: it's worth every second of your time.
Non-greedy people have no power. They are not decision-makers. Very unfortunately for them and for the planet. If only they started to crave something. Like justice. And if only they cravings were strong enough for them to act.
Baffles me too. It was said brazillions times that junk is bad for you, but people continue to consume it in huge amounts.
As to large corporations taking over small businesses... large corporations own the Earth, that's why. Is there a remedy against them? It's like asking whether there is a remedy against human greed. Human being is a synonym to greed and it will kill off that strain. Unfortunately after they have killed off all other life on this planet.
You do make sense! Our resources are indeed limited and we have to choose. It's about preferences.
Before I started paddling kayak, every visit to mechanical guys with my car felt like I've been robbed in the middle of the day. Now it doesn't feel so: my car is my only pumpkin to paddling waters and the costs to keep it going don't hurt me anymore - no restrictions here. I don't spend time, though, on washing it: the cost is low, but free time is precious and it's not allowed to waste it on appearance :)
Well... surprised to see that someone took this thread as being about grammars. Sorry for iterations, but the opening post says: "How much do you allow yourself and what do you curb? Why?"
Shoulda I offered an example? Like: I buy whatever piece of clothes I fancy without looking at the price if I really fancy it, but I don't allow my self ice-cream. In that case, I'm afraid, the thread will gear into (men bashing their exes for) buying clothes.
Have I really failed to explain the subject of this thread? Is it so hard to understand?
Well... those kittens, shown on FB, are quite often the result of exploiting their mothers, who are forced to give birth to and take care of one litter after another non-stop. For the owners profit.
But cute they are.
Another question: North Ireland has no problems? Such a promised land!
As they say: there's enough light for those, who want to see, and enough darkness for those, who don't. It's very difficult to hide anything in our time. The problem is: no one wants to know about anything beyond cute kittens on FB.
If you want an excuse (sort this or that), there will always be one. If you want a go, here it is. The oldest woman in the video is 92. What's your excuse, again?
I's a terrible insomniac since the age of 11. Sleep pills are poison, but it's the only solution the Western medicine could offer me.
I started practicing Qigong in the summer of 2018 and the first thing, that happened to me, was that my sleep improved quite dramatically. It happens, still, that I have difficulties with falling asleep for 1-2 times a month. It's nothing comparing to pre-Qigong's 2-3 times a week. Estimating conservatively, it's a quadruple improvement in my life quality.
They say, knowing another language is like owing another soul. A language doesn't exist on its own. It was developing (and still is developing) with its carriers' history, which is expressed in the arts. In the context it is mainly, but not limited to, literature. I read Russian books in Russian, Swedish in Swedish and Anglophone in English.
Sure, there's translation. Here's an example:
I read Homer in all my 3 languages and it was an experience: it's not like 3 different books, but they are not the same either, as they are translations by different, very talented people. If you had read Homer in some other language, but English, and not necessarily Russian or Swedish, just other, we could have compare our experiences. You don't have it. You can't compare different translations. You don't have experience of another soul.
But you expect your counterpart to know and understand not only the English language, but all the history and culture it's build on. You expect too much. You are boring.
Restrict don’t allow
