Kombucha, Kombucha all I can say is Kombucha...

Last week, OIdblue did a blog about a drink he brewed called Kombucha. I never heard of it and did some research. In layman's terms, it's a beverage made with fermented tea and known for it's health benefits.
I had no intentions of brewing the stuff, but the amazing thing is, while shopping in Aldi, I found it next to the fruits and berries in the refrigerated display. I wasn't looking for it, but I glanced over and POOF!
Kombucha in different flavors, so I bought one with Ginger and one with Cherry.
I plan to try some this weekend and chances are I'll report back with my findings.

Apparently, although it is quite good for you; it is not nearly, as amazing for you, as they say. Just saying, (apparently), that is.... professor
lovecanbereal, yeah probably.

It's like a report on wine or coffee.
Avoid them.
New study finds them healthy.
No, another report finds them a health risk.
Let us know how you like it. I too have seen it but never tried it.
I have no immediate intention of brewing kombucha, maybe when I'm not so busy. But using it for years I've found better brands like the GTS Ginger pictured are consistently good with much more activity, some other brands not so much activity. I use an ounce or so to ferment fruit juices and takes a week or more depending on temperature, adding a little sugar to some juices like cranberry that are lower in sugar content. I use quart jars, leave the cover loose to allow air exchange, tighten and shake once a day. Apple juice seems to have plenty sugar to feed the culture, once cultured becomes almost explosive and tastes similar to beer. I'm not sure it could become 'hard' like hard cider. I haven't done much research to that end, but have read that any alcohol produced is consumed by the culture. I'm not wanting to make alcohol, my interest is in the probiotics that help me feel better. Good luck and don't drink too much at once.. smile

Blardy Kombucha. roll eyes

Strange ain't it....when you've never heard of something or a phrase or other.....then you hear if for the first time and suddenly it pops up everywhere......laugh

Just come back from my weekly shop. I usually get a few bottles of my fav Spurilina smoothie(I have the Spurilina powder at home and sprinkle in my home-made smoothies)....but this particular brand of Spurilina I like......and right there.....as I reached out.....never noticed before, on the shelf above, it was packed with Kombucha.

Well, I got the organic Kombucha....raspBERRY & lemon flavour, of course. grin

Going out this evening.....I'll try it when I get home.....might energize me for.....blushing

Anyone out there like and use Spurilina powder on their smoothies? or Spurilina bought drinks? conversing
Berry, is that the same as Spirulina derived from blue-green algae?
Fay & bohemianjack, I tried a little tonight and it's got the flavor of cider. The one with ginger was much stronger in flavor than the cherry.
This song was the first I'd heard of it.
System Of A Down: Sugar

The Kombucha mushroom people
Sitting around all day
Who can believe you
Who can believe you
Let your mother pray (sugar)
I'm not there all the time you know
Some people, some people, some people
Call it insane, yeah they call it insane (sugar)
I play Russian roulette everyday, a man's sport
With a bullet called life, yeah, mama, called life(sugar)
You know that every time I try to go
Where I really want to be
It's already where I am
'Cause I'm already there
The Kombucha mushroom people
Sitting around all day
Who can believe you
Who can believe you
