Intro To Extinction Rebellion (XR)

XR began in the UK last Fall to save Humankind from extinction by 2030.
They claim Drastic Action is required to raise awareness of the dire nature of the situation.

My take on it?
Inevitable Near Term Human Extinction (INTHE) is locked in & has been for some time.
XR looks like a collective display of the 1st three of the five stages in Kubler-Ross's dying process -
1) Denial
2) Anger
3) Bargaining

That's my take
Y'all's results may vary.

If anyone's interested in aligning with the organization, disregard the dates given in the vid - they pertain to last year.
XR is planning an international event for October 7 of '19 - Search It.

It's a futile waste of time & energy IMO - like railing against gravitation or rearranging deck furniture on the Titanic.
But if it'll make anyone Feeeel like you're actually accomplishing something - go for it & knock y'all's selves out cheers

this outta make the doomsdayers day....wave
There definitely is a doomsdayer vibe to the whole thing. AOC and others shamelessly trying to profiteer off fear mongering. 'The world will end in 12 years' - MY ÁSS

There are of course people with good intentions, but the problem is the loudest voices are those advocating for radical government intervention, which would be a disaster in my opinion. Look what a rise in fuel tax led to in France - the yellow vest movement. There's no way most people are going to accept huge increases in tax forced upon by a government who tell you "oh, it's okay, we're saving the planet". Not a chance. And the thing is i'm not against environmentalism, far from it, but in order for things to be a success, it has to be led by regular citizens, with minimal government interference. A re-dedication to tree planting. Encouraging people to make a difference through our individual actions and lifestyle. We are the consumer after all. How we consume dictates what companies produce.
We have a local ER group here.

Think global, act local.

It's a bit like my CS mantra...chat global, date local giggle
The time for "action" may have very well come and gone. In the "progressive" battle against nature, greed may be Mother's greatest ally.

Don't fret. Continue to drill her, pump her, burn her, and ignore her genius. She was always going to win eventually. Time is on her side as well.

In a vein similar to that of ER -

But we're taught to be aware of signs of the times...
2But He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘The weather will be fair, for the sky is red;’ 3and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but not the signs of the times!…

Serious question: wherever you are in the world, have you noticed a particular change in the skies? I mean, not so much recently actually, but last year especially for me, there were the most spectacular skies i have ever experienced, particularly of late evening early night, lots of pink, just beautiful, fleeting.
Now that you mention it, Chance -
Yes! In fact, a group of us noticed a particularly spectacular sunset just this past Wednesday.

cowboy
I guess i've wondered is there some meaning? Like a message? I mean skies like in my life i've never experienced, maybe it's just as a result of changing climate, but at times i've wondered if they are a symbol
Good goals are rarely achieved by not trying. head banger
Search ~ sunsets Sahara dust.

A lot of hits will come up.
The dust has been/is causing remarkable sunsets over a large area -
Parts of Europe & Eastern N. America, among others.

yes, it is.
Could be quite hopeful signs - depending upon one's perspective...

Well, nothing can be done now.

Now that's a Great plan!

I just hope the kids think it's funny.

I don't understand with you though miclee, how you can post comments and yet your profile picture light is grey? But it should be green, to show that you're online? Is there a loose connection? laugh
I've discovered how to override the little green light, fio.
It was necessary that I do so as I must deceive my enemies.
For obvious reasons.

uh oh

cowboy
Oh right, you've just gone green (the circular light to say you're online, not you personally)... I can't see you having enemies here, you're too nice and sensible for that!
I was just kidding there by the way! Some peeps here can be too sensitive but you seem to have a really good sense of humour and you're very fair-minded and diplomatic, wine
Three years or so ago Leo DiCaprio narrated this dire warning produced (coincidentally wink ) by....The Leo DiCaprio Foundation...

It warns of human extinction.
It claims to inform us how to prevent it - but really doesn't.

Yes. Arctic methane is venting. How can it be stopped?
How can sprayed champagne be rebottled & recorked?

Leo used his best Apocalyptic voice and urged viewers to share the vid far & wide.
It's garnered a whopping 2.9k views.
Over some three years.
'Bout 2 1/2 views/day. Or so.

yawn blah blah
