Mad Mike Hughes is gone...

64 year old Mad Mike was the daredevil who proposed a rocket launch to prove the world is flat. Many said take a commercial flight... it's much cheaper!
Yesterday, in another stunt, he attempted a homemade rocket launch that failed and he died.

His steam powered rocket was supposed to launch Hughes 62 miles into the air, clearing the Karman Line, the border between Earth's atmosphere and outer space.

From the ABC story that covered the event:
The rocket launch was intended to be one of three featured in a new Science Channel series, "Homemade Astronauts," which would chronicle the story of self-financed teams "in their cosmic quest to explore the final frontier on limited budgets."

Mike was the guy who was widely regarded as someone who believed the Earth is flat. According to his publicist, It was only a publicity stunt.

Yes chat saw that too sad as we need folk in this world who think outside the box blues
The guy was a character. He once said the flat Earth belief wasn't his motivation, he was really just a Daredevil. His last attempt he reached a whopping altitude of 1875 feet. Not sure what altitude he was reaching for in this attempt, but hardly high enough to see any curvature. Just the other day I was watching a video of someone who approached him in a parking lot near some business, while he was literally banging on the rocket launcher frame with a mallet because it was mangled when he was rear ended by a truck, as he was pulling it down the highway. Yep quite a character!
The video is kinda sad. According to what I read, this was an attempt @ 5,000' and working toward the goal of 62 miles.

I don't believe he was really a flat-earther.
Sometimes natural selection takes longer, than with others.
I remember a flat earth organisation that had across the top of their web page a title reading something like- Flat Earth Society Has Members Around The Globe.

Found it.

These 'Mad Mikes' are really something. The one that I knew (of) was Colonel Mike Hoare passed away peacefully on 2 February 2020. He was 100 years old. Those who truly knew him referred to him as Mad Mike Hoare. A Mercenary. sad flower
Natural selection on video. Remove the idiot genes from the gene pool.

Too bad there isn't a steam rocket big enough for the Democrats. I'm sure they'd love to give it a try too.
So, yours will be leaving soon ? wave
