His name is Cannon Hinnant

You may not have heard of him. Much of mainstream news has chosen not to report on him. He was 5 years old. Outside playing when a 25 year old man came up and shot him point blank in the head. The shooting happened 4 days ago.

Why has much of news turned a blind eye to this horrific murder? For me the answer is simple: because the little boy was white and the alleged murderer (in police custody) is black. Now i don't think it should matter a damn in a situation like this - this story should be front page news everywhere. It is a horrific murder of a very young child. But i think we also know that if the skin colors were reversed there would be a whole different kind of coverage. Now i don't pretend to know if the motive of this murder was a racist one. It certainly could be. The murderer could have been clinically psychotic or off his head on drugs. I try not to assume. Just as i didn't assume motive with George Floyd, i'm not going to assume it here. Let there be a thorough investigation and the facts come out. But really it is very very VERY sad that this story is not getting more coverage. What kind of world are we living in where a 5 year old boy out playing can be shot in the head and many news outlets choose not to report it?

Actually, I am a fan of splitting hairs. grin I find great truths hide in fine distinctions. And, as I feel it's likely I've given you a wrong impression in the past, I like you and I admire your heart and intellect--and discernment. That said, sometimes I am not as precise with my words as I should be. grin I've a tendency to visceral & intuitive response and I can be rash and, at times, harsh. I find the people with the biggest hearts to protect are often like that. You're the sort of dynamo I'd hire to be PR because of your savvy and discernment and determination. You'd keep me from saying things like "We should just kill him now, before he finishes that wall. That's where this is going, one way or the other. Best we get on with it. Why protract this suffering." laugh wink

Obviously, I'm a passionate soul. I need that sort of modulation from time to time. help All rational well-intended contributions are deeply appreciated.teddybear I can always count on you for that!
I've not long posted on Shawnthor's thread saying I wouldn't be at all surprised if Trump is assassinated if he gets re-elected.

Would it be okay if I popped round and swapped your cutlery for some nice cheery, colourful plastic ones? laugh
Unfortunately, Trump is old enough and crazed enough to end other people's, though.
It's an abusive relationship between the citizens of the US and her government. It's not a fair, equal, tender relationship based upon mutual respect.

Would you feel bad about fleeing an abusive husband, rather than defending the commitment you once made?
How much power do have to create change if you stay? Your vote?

Would you still be able to vote if you live in France?

If you set up in another country would that give your family somewhere to turn to if the needed it?

Which part of your feelings are rational and practical and which are indoctrinated and irrational?

It would be a shame to miss out on an adventure, on living a life you want to live if you have the means, if what's holding you back is irrational.
That was me above, not a deleted profile.

I take too long thinking and writing and post after I've been automatically logged out.
Jac, good points all--very good. Yes, that's part of my reason for wanting to move: to create a place for my family to come if they have to get out. They will not be happy with me moving, until they need to get out--and then I'll be glad I've moved but sad they have to leave home to escape insanity. I have wanted to be in the Pyrenees for 30 years too, and I want to make that move while I still can. I'm not getting any younger after all. Thanks for the Socratic. Pointed and effective. Our thinking on this is very much alike. I just lapse into identification with learned helplessness at times and start seeing drawbacks instead of avenues. But, then again, it's a big move even for a young person to undertake. teddybear
