I agree most R's is not much to be excited about.

The House isn't responsible for foreign policy decisions. However, they do fund the war machine. Over a hundred billion dollars so far to fund the proxy war in Ukraine. Congress is in large part owned by weapons industry contractors there's your problem. They don't care how much global instability it leads to, or how much inflation their constituents are left with, so long as they and their buddies get rich. No speaker currently but McCarthy didn't follow through on promises made and so he was thrown out as per The House Rules he agreed to. They could have voted Jim Jordan as speaker but there were a number of Republican holdouts (the kind I mentioned above who are beholden to the weapons manufacturers). Now there's apparently a backroom secret ballot vote going on to decide who the sole Republican nominee will be this time round. Once again showing complete contempt for their constituents by not doing it transparently, out in the open. It may well happen that a number of Democrats will end up voting to help elect a corrupt Republican like Tom Emmer as Speaker. Then the mask will TRULY be off as to how Washington operates. It's not R Vs D. It's a corrupt uniparty establishment that works in tandem to screw over the people. Wars, inflation, weaponization of government. They feel zero responsibility to the people who elected them.

The reason Jordan couldn't get any votes, or much support outside of the Trump block, is simply because he was supported by Trump. A pure kiss of death. As soon as D. Trump suggested him, literally millions of American voters began contacting their Congress Person and urging them to vote no to Jordan, while also letting their Senator know how they felt about a Trump supporter getting any power ever again. I was one of those Republicans and I am very happy that man did not get the seat.

We now have an elected Speaker of the House, a Republican who hasn't yet made enemies on either side of the aisle and is therefore acceptable.

Is total war with nuclear weapons falling on every major city on the globe possible? Absolutely. Has been for almost 60 years. It will probably remain equally possible for another 400 or 500 years. Get used to it. Anyone can die at any time with very little warning. We can fall out hospital windows like Putin's friends do, or get killed in a car accident, or by a burglar, or our Vena Cava can rupture without warning and we bleed out internally in minutes (happened to a 30ish, otherwise healthy, person I knew), or have a heart attack in our sleep, or maybe Putin or an Ayatollah will just start throwing nukes around. Death is a part of life. Can't have one without the other.

Books, interviews, radio shows, etc. Then there were the Fuch's telling Russia, and of course we told the British and the French how. Russia told China. Then Dr. Teller went to Israel and told them how. Someone else told India and the Pakistan. So much of the how too you could find in any good reference library up to the 90s. After that it is all online. If you don't mind hopping from website to website you can put together a step by step guide as North Korea did and Iran is doing. Did you know you can actually buy Uranium online? Yes sure small amounts and mostly 238, but after 70 years of playing around there are at least 6 ways of getting 235. Not that long abo a bored Boy Scout built a working fast neutron gun in his garage and also contaminated his neighborhood with radioactives as he tried to build something with more bang. Two decades earlier someone else had a private nuclear reactor in his basement for electric power without anyone knowing of it. LoL. In the US alone the govt loses track of about 1,000 nuclear items a year. Every year. The items range from hunks of Cesium 137 all the way up to scraps of Plutonium. Could someone build a working nuclear weapon? Back in the 80s the US found another kid (13 years old) who had, he just hadn't yet acquired the plutonium. He did however get the proper explosives and build the 'lenses' needed for a working implosion device (aka Fat Man).

Don't worry about war. Worry about local crazies and accidents. Those are much more real.

You describe the Secret to winning the seat as Speaker of the House. No one had ever heard of him.

He is fairly new to the Congress and avoided limelight (until now) and also involvement in most controversy. Therefore no one could really object to him without sounding like an idiot. Work on budget and other items has moved back on track.

I agree with you 100%. At the core of it it's a battle between good and evil (deception and false virtue versus imperfect reality). A battle between those who like to throw stones and those who have become increasingly adept at gathering the stones to use against the goliath. Despite all the things that one might find concerning on the surface, I'm not worried. I feel like everything is for a reason. I feel like evil has over-played its hand and its demise is simply a matter of time. What a time to be alive.
