The quake brought down walls made from stone and masonry not constructed to endure quakes, covering whole communities with rubble and leaving residents picking their way precariously through remains.

So my belief is that praying to an all powerful being would be a total waste of time and effort because this all powerful supposed being will have already decided the fate of everyone

I grew up hearing the same, so unless our fate means death rather than how we'll reach our final destination ,its not wrong.. otherwise I'd be inclined to think like you, praying to be saved or spared would be a waste of time.
It's a complicating life we're living, with Christians & Atheists complicating all the more ...

I wasn't defending "god" (as you know, I am a non believer)
But was saying it was "man-made", meaning that "somebody/something" made it happen and it was provoked.
