Morning spent at the doctor's and hospital

For a couple of weeks now one of the fingers on my left hand has been painful. I assumed that I had knocked it and that the pain would go away. Over the weekend I discovered that the finger had swollen. Today I managed to get a doctor's appointment. The doctor said that it could either be a fracture or arthritis or something else. I spent this morning having a blood test and an x ray. I will know the results in 2 weeks time. Meantime life goes on, there are people who have it worse than me and whatever the results show I will deal with it. Have a good evening/day everyone. teddybear hug bouquet

I have all kinds of hand and finger pain but I know my body is getting old. I relieve it by being active and, believe it or not, when I play my conga drums the pain goes away! Slapping the head skins works wonders!!!!

Hiya Sweetkitten,

Two weeks is a long time to wait for the results.

Unlikely to be broken, generally you'd know you broke something immediately it happens. Not something you're likely to forget.

Most likely it is garden variety osteoarthritis.

Rheumatoid and gout would be the next most likely. Rheumatoid doesn't affect the end knuckle of fingers for some reason.

Least likely would be an infection in the joint. This would be exquisitely painful to the point you would not be able to move it hardly at all due to pain.

Safest drug treatment would be paracetamol as per instructions on the box, generally 8 - 10 a day. Other drugs like ibuprofen are effective, but may have serious side effects like stomach ulcers.

Good luck.
Thank you for your comments. I can't actually take paracetamol as it upsets my stomach. I've recently been looking at alternative therapies for pain relief. teddybear bouquet hug
