Is society doomed?

I wonder sometimes if we as humans and our society is doomed. I see the most horrific things on the net and I fear I am falling victim to the normalcy bias. Things that would have kept me up all night in the past have become part of the norm these days.

Case in point the Boston marathon bombing. Dont get my wrong I felt bad for the people that got hurt and sad for the families that lost loved ones but I didnt feel the shock and surprise I would have felt 20 years ago over something like this.

I see videos of cops beating mentally ill people like the incident in Arcadia Ca. where 6 cops beat a mentally ill man to death. Or more easy to remember, the Rodney King beating.

I have to wonder "If this is the norm are we doomed?" America is just inches away from becoming a Martial Law total Police State and I wonder if the bombing in Boston is the event that pushes us over the edge into a situation that I would rather die than live in.

Dont get me wrong, I am not suicidal but someone once said "Better to die on your feat than live on your knees" and I have to wholeheartedly agree.

Peace and God bless

Just look at history theres your answer and it will always be--end of story. I.M.O.
well the day when there is a police man on every corner .....is comming fast ....to a street corner near you banana
My respect of Checkers.??? trouble in that that people lost mankind values. In the world the power, the power which wants all to force to the knees thirst. And you are right having told, it is better to die in fight than to live on a lap. World and wellbeing to you.hug hug handshake
Norway does not have much crime, but it's coming to us too...fast. Our policemen can still go on the street without a gun by their side, and I am happy for this. But it will soon be in our daily life too, policemen with guns. The more crime we get the more problems the law will have with this. I speak only for Norway, and my point of view... what other countries does I do leave it up to them. We had a terror attack on Norway in 2011, it was horrible and not to believe. The horror was terrible and I cried and I cried for the kids this man shot. This does not give me any reason to which that our policemen do carry a gun every day, it just shows me we too can be wounded by terror, like every county in this world. Thank you... maybe a little on the edge, but I did contribute some.teddybear
Welela,

Your contribution is welcome and more than that it is appreciated. I have always admired Norway especially for your hydrogen powered cars and such. and the Norway Hydrogen highway I read about. I think Norway is on the right track, we have no real need for oil when hydrogen is the most abundant resource on the planet and burns with laterally no pollution.
I didnt mean to leave anyone out all your contributions are welcomed and appreciated :)
Ah my friend, do nat be too alarmed. Not much (other than looks) have changed during tha last few thousand years. We only have much better news casting now.

I believe we are safer now than during the Roman (or any other) era.

The stage coach is still being held up and robbed. It only looks a bit different now!

I fully agree with KNenagh!

Things have always been brutal at times. The camera and a more abled public is making us more aware.
Agree with Cat and KN.
Nowadays people have different sorts of weapon and better and faster sourses of information, one shot can kill millions and u will know this in a minute sitting in front of tv in another part of the world. But the number of victims as a percentage to the whole population number hasnt changed much.
Luckily, modern people dont kill for food or church doesnt kill for difference in believes. Now they kill for different reasons. Unfortunaly, evil will always exist one kind or another, its just reality.dunno
