What Is Time?

The present -
tomorrow's past
yesterday's future
Is the past an illusion?
Is the future a fantasy?
What is Time?
Our scientists cannot say
If there are no events
to measure it
will Time exist?
Did it have a beginning?
Will it have an ending?
What is Time?

Time???? When I'm waiting for the cops to arrive at my totally cleaned out place and the 5 criminals are 20m down the road,,that's time. I'm sure they don't want to arrest anyone that's why 'time' means nothing to them frustrated
Time is something we all don't have enough of but something we all waste.
Hi Soc
This is so confusing.
Yesterday today was tomorrow and tomorrow today will be yesterday. Is this what they mean my time is relative?
rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
The past is wisdom the futuer is hope and the present is a gift to be enjoyed now!professor wave handshake
I like being in the Here and Now,cool
Hi Lukeon
I empathise with you in the situation. The cops may say they must take their time to ensure they arrest the correct person(s).
Hi BaldAndBeautiful
Nicely stated! What a paradox!!!
Time is for me every breath charged in my being...is time...and of course measured to my knowledge as long as I am aware...bouquet gift
Hi Catfoot
Your comment had me confused for a while. I had to punctuate it first to understand it.
"Yesterday, today was tomorrow, and tomorrow, today will be yesterday." I hope I got it correct.
All measurement is relative to some reference point. Time is a measurement so it is relative in that sense.
The first part of your comment, stating "today was tomorrow" uses yesterday as its reference, i.e., the statement is correct, relative to yesterday.
Likewise, the second part, stating "today will be yesterday" uses tomorrow as its reference and it is also correct, relative to tomorrow.
There is no contradiction. I hope this clears your confusion.

Some may argue that there is absolute time; if there is, what is it? Can someone please help?
Hi Scott
The past may be a source of wisdom only if we heed lessons learned from past experience but I do not think that everyone does so; such persons may not become any wiser.
The future should be a source of hope but the pessimists and deeply depressed may not view it that way.

"The present is a gift to be enjoyed now". I hope all bloggers heed this particular message of yours!
Hi Flyjames
Well spoken! It's a nice way to avoid worrying about the past and the future as many people seem to do.
What has past , has pasted.
My eyes are open to see what is coming.
But then I will not for get to take the frist step.
Where every thing is happening in the here and now.
The past is a closed book which can be opened.
The future is a closed book which will be opened.
Today is my book and I love reading.peace teddybear
I dont avoid the past, if there is a need to go there ,
Then its only to learn how to make things better

To look too far into the future ,then I am not seeing what is happening Now.
We have night and day.Today I will do my best today for the next day.
But if I stay in the past there wilbe only the past,
Who wants tobe there?

We all have dreams like my dauthersw being happy making the world a better place to live that we all have jobs tobe at peace in my slef and with the world around me and maybe this year I can make a garden.

I am not going to say all of this is an illusion...peace
I ment my dauthers being happy.
Flyjames I agree with your thinkingpeace

Besides I dont like being lost in Time and Space
cool runings mancool
Hi sundayrose
You have a unique way of measuring time with your breathing.
As you are probably aware, in yoga meditation, a lot of emphasis is placed on one's breathing. When I started to explore meditation years ago, I read where it was said that each of us have a certain number of breaths allocated to us in our lifetime so I suppose each breath can be viewed as a unit of time,
Hi Redex
I love your comment. It's great. Thanks for sharing.
time is money. professor
Hi ajkaorjun
I agree that for some, it is so but for those seeking love on Connecting Singles, remember the Beatles "Money Cant Buy You Love"
Hi Serendipity
Thanks for your comment.

As you pointed out, the second law of thermodynamics states that, in a closed system, there is initially a high level of usable energy (low entropy) which moves to a low level (high entropy) with time. But how did it acquire the low entropy state initially? Was it an open system earlier that enabled it to acquire its usable energy?

How can we verify that the universe is really a closed system when, as modern science has shown, there is a continuous interaction of energy between the various components of the entire cosmos which includes our solar system.
Should we simply posit that time began when the universe, as it is, started to decrease its usable energy? Why?

"every changing, finite and contingent thing, needs a cause for its limited existence" - Law of Causality (your quote).
In my humble view, I do not see how that law posits the need for a First Cause. It simply refers to an on-going process of change with which I agree.
The law could apply very well to an endless chain of cause-> effect-> cause-> effect-> cause->... events ad infinitum, with no beginning or end.

P.S. I have a great respect for your position with respect to religion and I value your comment greatly. I posted the following blog and I would be very grateful for your comment on it since it is something that has me very puzzled for a long time:

Thank you and have a wonderful day!
