I learned how to sew from my mother.I don't have a sewing machine anymore but I'm hoping to get another one day.
The machines are all singing all dancing now. What will you be making?
Oh I wish I could.. I am useless with a needle in any area.... Admire so much people who can. applause

Buy most of my clothes in the second hand store, new to me.
I am surprised at the good things that I find there.
It is fun to come home with a great outfit that is a great buy.
I pay for a top, $2 dollars, pants for $3 dollars.
Some have not even been worn.

Ladies keep giving the thrift stores your good clothes.........

I can mend and take in clothes or put in a new zipper. I would do simple stuff like curtains etc, haven't sewed clothes in about 25 years. conversing

It it a handy skill to have.
Are you a sewer Jac?
It was good to hear about your late wife John. Not many of us left now. It must have been very colourful in your household and I bet she worked long into the night too in order to meet deadlines. handshake
CC I'm sure you'll love getting stuck into that crafty stuff. banana
Well KN I'm a Dressmaker but I've never thought curtains were easy. You need so much space.

Yes BC I find that annoying too. Ones eyes are kind of drawn toward the floor somehow.
Yes Jac I thought that might confuse you. I think someone suggested that you might be a dressmaker.
Oh Mimi that's not uncommon. I taught dressmaking to ten yr olds and 85yr olds.

It's like everything, 'You have to want to!!' teddybear
I sew all the time. Mostly clothes for friends and my two little grandaughters. They are always telling me what they want.
When i was a little girl , my dad gave me an old sewing machine that was hand operated. On that i learnt to sew . My mother taught me . She sewed all our clothes, knitted all our pullovers and socks. We had no money for bought things. But we always dressed well.
I feel its a shame that kids dont learn this anymore in school . For us it was compulsory, along with cookery. I believe now a days with so many people unemployed and little skills its harder for people to survive on little money. We lived well on little money , because we Grey vegetables , fruit, Made jams and preserves. Keeping chooks for eggs, sewing and knitting clothes ourselves . We had plenty of money for a good holiday every year.
We had no time to watch tv. We went fishing , fossicked for mushrooms ,
When i was in Romania a couple of years ago i saw people living like this still, as we used to live fifty years ago in my country.
My parents had a lot of very useful knowledge gained from having to survive the depression.
One of them was sewing.
What a lovely sentiment Nicefeet. I miss those times too. Everything had a purpose and we were constantly passing down that knowledge to our children/ grand children.

Nowadays children only seem to want to use computers.

And here we are on computers debating it. doh confused
