Patriotism is no longer Patriotism when it puts material things before people, Flags included...
It becomes capitalism.
I remember asking my American cousin if those people didn't know what country they were in or something, to say they had to have the flag outside their doors to remind them!
Flags would only be out here if there was a big international football game or something, and that is only a relatively modern phenomenon. Before, you would only see it when fans travelled abroad, or on St. Patrick's Day.
We just kinda always knew we were Irish, and didn't need a flag in our front garden to prove it. Maybe I still don't fully understand it
That seems a little insecure to me.
But I think sometimes people put patriotism before humanity, and forget what is really important in the world.
Am I proud to me Irish? Absolutely.
But I don't need a constant reminder of a flag to reinforce that.
I know what I am. I don't need reminding.
And these are not unprecedented times. They are just unprecedented times for certain people in certain communities.
Things have always happened before, and things have always happened somewhere.
Nothing is unprecedented.

a google: Christianity began, let me discuss the
actual date of this event. For a number of reasons, most notably Luke’s
comment that Jesus was born during the reign of Herod the Great (who died
in 4 or possible 3 BC), we know that Jesus was born in about 6-5 BC.
Given that the crucifixion had to occur in a year when the pre-Passover
Seder feast occurred on a Friday, possible years for the crucifixion are
AD 29 or AD 33. The most likely date, in my opinion, is AD 29. The Day
of Pentecost occurred fifty days after the Passover (and thus the name
Pentecost) and forty-nine days after the Feast of First fruits (and thus
the other common name for Pentecost, which is the Feast of Weeks).
Therefore, taking the Day of Pentecost as the day the Christianity began,
it would be 50 days after the Passover (15th of Nisan) in the year AD 29.
But Christianity as a religion wasn't necessarily formed on the Pentecost you mentioned.
And when did the writers of the bible both write them, and die?
We are presuming that the splendid gent ahead of me was talking about about the new testament rather than the old, although his assertion sound more old testamenty to me - so it would be pre-christian to me, although I don't claim tp be a theologist nor religious historian
Nationalism is a disease. Makes people blind and weak.
We're number 1!!!.....not.
Better get off the flag debate and go do something to make the world a little better, Merikans.
Hope you had a great 4th.....
Epic patriotism of congratulating and celebrating yourself doesn't have a lot of class in this day. It feels empty. I love the soil under my feet and I love having more in common with the British than any other people on the earth. I look out for the interests of both. That's what patriotism is to me.
