Bike insurance
a friend of mine's husband does a lot of biking, with a club that does a lot in the community, particularly with kids, but that's a whole other blog.NOT ASKING FOR MONEY JUST FOR IDEAS ABOUT GETTING BIKERS TO INSURE THEMSELVES
ANYWAY. He said they're once again being asked to help fund-raise for a youngster who has had a serious accident and - didn't have insurance. This is in South Africa and the hospital is asking a R90K deposit to do an estimated R300K worth of surgery or he will lose his hand. (Is that about $15K deposit? Close enough)
Hubby wants her to do some blogging about GETTING INSURANCE WHEN YOU GET A BIKE, damnit, but wants to word it so it catches attention, not too preachy.
She asked me but I'm not really clued up on bikes and bikers. Any suggestions?
NOT ASKING FOR MONEY NOT ASKING FOR MONEY SHEEESH!!!!
Asking for ways of making people THINK before they get on a bike and roar off into the uninsured blue! One tag suggested was "Dont ride the hog if you cant pay the doc"

For once, just for once I'm actually trying to stop money having to be asked for
I would not be sending or raising money unless all is verified,
I do think people who spend a fortune on a fancy bike would insure it without thinking twice about it, and hopefully themselves at the same time. The accidents ruining lives are often the kids hopping on a cheap 2nd-or-3rd-hand bike, strapped for cash, their main thought is buying the gas not thinking of anything that could go wrong.
They're the ones he wants her to help him target on FB and other social media. She asked me for ideas because I in theory play a lot with words.
How do you get it into a teenager's head that he could go kaboom and too late then to hurriedly try to get medical cover?
At first Biff I thought you meant kid on bycycle as bikers raise funds for alsorts of people,
Kids here on bikes get taught how to ride and if in a club they are insured.
Now you meant some kid jumping on petrol bike I SEE Well parents should insure kids on bikes are insured as it is against the law not to be.
z I AM SEEING
There is a slush fund for people hurt by uninsured drivers too.
But those that injure themselves and are uninsured? I wouldn't give a penny to any fundraising on their behalf. They are irresponsible and don't deserve help.
I know here you can get the car / bike confiscated if you aren't properly covered, and TBH that's how it should be because accidents usually involve other people
There, it is just a fine and you take your chances and hope you won't be caught and accelerate away when you see the coppers and WHERE THE HELL DID THAT TREE COME FRO-
Shoulda got insurance.
But - you're 17, just got a bike, FREEDOM BABY, is there any way of building in the automatic reflex 'better get insurance' apart from visiting a banged-up friend in hospital, or going to a funeral? Which should do it and even then doesn't always
Cars, too. Fire, theft and 3rd party insurance is the standard, so people do a lot of expensive damage to themselves in cars too and no NHS on standby, just the state hospitals.
