Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

I should learn to keep my trap shut but there are things that can annoy me so much that I have to speak. A dog on a chain is one of those things.sigh

Ever since I moved here – while taking my morning walk - I have been noticing this dog in the front yard a few blocks down the road. I don’t know the English name of the breed but in my language we call it a skaaphond which translates to a sheep dog. I suspect it may be of English origins. It is a black and white dog with hair of medium length. We keep them on our sheep farms as they are very good with sheep. crazy

I would not really have bothered as it not a spectacular dog. It was well fed with water within his reach and enough shade. But it was tied to a stake in the ground by means of a 2-meter chain.frustrated

This morning, for the first time, I saw the owner in the garden. I introduced myself and we shook hands in true South African style.handshake

“Nice dog”, I commented.

Yes”, he replied. “A well tended dog”.

“You mean a well fed dog”, I said. It slipped out before I could catch it.

“So what is the difference?” he asked. I did not fail to notice the annoyance in his eyes.

“He’s on a chain”, I said.

“Yes, so he is. Otherwise he ruins my garden”, he replied, now clearly irritated.

“That is easy to explain”, I said. “These dogs need plenty of space. He belongs on a farm”.

“Why don’t you mind your own business”, he exploded.

Well, he was right, it was none of my business, and I proceeded with my walk. I normally come back up the next street but my inquisitiveness forced be back the same way and when I passed the house he pretended not to notice me while attaching a steel ring to a tree.hmmm

Can it be that he plans to put the dog on a cable? I surely hope so. It will not satisfy me but it will certainly make me happier.

nature tells us ...

this morning i was having my morning coffee and a cig and living in the country side ,and there was a eerie quietness no birds no dogs barking just total stillness ,,just like the saying the calm before the storm ,then just a few hours later it happened the gentle sway as if you are feeling giddy ,,i went out side again and still that deathly silence , so i checked the news to find out that our neighbouring country of greece had been hit by another earth quake ,but thankfully no injuries reported ,,,so it just goes to show that animals know what is about to happened long before we do ,,
yesterday was unusually quiet as well ,so did they feel what ever it is that they feel or sense then ,,,
i know in future i will be paying a lot more attention to nature ,,,

The dying kittie.....

....Miss Angel, one of a neighbor's cats, is 17 YO, and is fading. The vets think she had an occult cancer over the past half year, and she was down to under 5 pounds. But still eating, purring, playful, and feisty, as Maine Coons can be. Excellent huntress, she brought in a bedazzled little chipmunk not too long ago, even in her poor state. One of the girls got her to drop it and it ran. But she too quickly? gained about 2 pounds on some antidepressant the vets gave to calm her and to stimulate her appetite. The weight gain seems to have placed her into heart failure, and her breathing is compromised. Other medicine is helping, but her time is short. So I'm working next door and watching her, while her mistress, a nurse practitioner, is working. Our Bravo has a few more years, but he'll face this soon enough, as do we all. I hate it, but these animals all have fun long lives. This is sad, but has to be better than some political rant.

Arkansas.....

Texas....and a few dozen other states. When a dog is rabid, all states and territories put them "to sleep". As with many of these largely beyond treatable human convicted murderers, drugs (coctails) are preferred. Liberals are making a fuss over the alleged "pain and suffering" these killers experience on the final gurney. Of course, compared to the suffering they caused their victims, and to the gas chamber, noose and electric chair, these objections are really below laughable. Six rifles, five cartidges. next topic, folks. Or two in the hat, as in many other enlightened (or otherwise) places. And it shouldn't take two decades, and cost tax payers millions, while victims families await justice in (difficult to treat) pain and grief. Aa.
