One Sick Puppy

Now that I go to write the blog I can't remember if my profile picture shows Bella or not but I'm going to guess the dog is in my arms because she usually is and when she isn't, she is by my side. She went to work with me every single day in the CPA firm and she sits on my desk at home.

Two days ago she was restless, throwing up and diareah. I knew a vet visit was in order the next day however her diareah and vomitting stopped yesterday but she still stayed restless. Today she finally ate something but everytime she laid down, she would pop up, spin around, try to lay down, pop up spin around, try to lay down, rinse and repeat.

I only moved to this town two months ago so I called the neighbor to ask for her vets phone number. Funny thing when the vet's office answered I recognized the name and it was the same vet I used over 40 years ago when I lived in this town. I took Bella to the vet but she miraculously got better when we got there so I was sent home. If I find blood in her stool or she continues this popping up, spinning uncomfortable gestures I will have some geriatric blood work done after all she is 14 years old.

She weighed two and a half pounds, that is SOOOO TINY. I don't ever want such a tiny dog again. I love throwing her in my purse but I don't like watching for all the predators (like birds) that want to dine on her. Especially here in FL she is truly gator bait.

I think my cooking made for one sick puppy.

Star Man

Star Man was the name of one of my sister's cat's. Last night, he got hit by a car and died. I am having a hell of a lot of trouble dealing with this one even though it wasn't my cat. Its making me want to keep them all inside but that will never happen.

A Boy And His Dog - Beyond Chance

An amazing story of a boy with problems and a dog who did wonders for him. A dog is indeed man's best friend.

This could be the best 9 minute video you see all year.

Men and women.....and dogs and cats.....

I've noticed a preference. Men for large dogs in general. Women for yappy little fufu dogs, and the ever delightful cat.

Buzz saw

I posted this somewhere else, but I can tell (from analytics) not many have seen it.

The time duration is less than a second. Can you imagine what that felt like? Ow!

Dogs and fireworks / thunder / guns

Dogs don't like fireworks, sure, we all know that but reactions range from flinching to outright hysterics. Why?

We know hunting dogs cope with the fairly hectic sound of rifles. We know, or know of, dogs that are so distressed by gunshots, fireworks, thunderstorms, that they can die of shock.

The whole of Granada province is starting fiestas to celebrate San Antonio and the vanquishing of El Moros by El Cristianos and my town is already rocked by occasional exuberant rifles, it will be pretty hectic over fiesta time. Although my dog used to get angry during Guy Fawkes and Hogmanay and rush out through the dog flap to bark furiously, here she is ignoring the occasional bang and if there is a fusillade she heads to her basket and is hopefully going to cope. She wasn't bothered by 2018 NY fireworks, now that I think back. She and the cat both watch me anxiously during thunderstorms but while I'm calm, they're calm.

Her change of home has brought a change of reaction, is what I'm saying, and it made me wonder why different dogs react so differently anyway.

All that glitters......

We all know that Gary Glitter is very much persona non grata these days, which is no doubt as it should be. However, I can't help thinking it a little unfair that his scandalous sex abuse record has totally eclipsed what an absolutely crap musician this man was. His performances were truly diabolical, even by 70s standards. So, despite his moral descent to the very lowest depths, let's just take a minute to remember what a twat he was to start with.

Horses that were once the pride of the South African Infantry.

JOHANNESBURG – The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) was "horrified" after it had to put down 25 horses belonging to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) because the animals were starving to death, the council said on Monday.

The animals were in the care of the SANDF's South African Army Special Infantry Capability (SAASIC) unit.

In a statement, the NSPCA said its inspectors found the animals "in such an emaciated condition or compromised state of health that to prevent their further suffering they had to be destroyed".

These same horses were once the pride and joy of the unit.
