The set of books, referred to as Pernkopf's Atlas is no longer in print and surgeons are prepared to pay thousands of pounds for a second-hand set. These books are widely considered to be the best example of anatomical drawings in the world. It is richer in detail and more vivid in color than any other. Yet, few would proudly display it in their clinic, library or home.

That is because the research for these books was done on the bodies of hundreds of people killed by the Nazis. It is their bodies - cut up and dissected - that are shown across thousands of pages. Critics say the book is tainted by its dark past and scientists have grappled with the ethics involved in its use. Dr. Sabine Hildebrandt, from Harvard Medical School, says at least half of the 800 images in the atlas came from political prisoners. They included gay men, lesbians, gypsies, political dissidents and Jews.

In 1939, a new Third Reich law ensured the bodies of all executed prisoners were immediately sent to the nearest department of anatomy for research and teaching purposes. During this period Dr. Eduard Pernkopf, a dedicated Nazi, worked 18-hour days dissecting corpses, while a team of artists created images for his book. Sometimes the anatomy institute was so full, executions had to be postponed.



Pernkopf was arrested after the war and sacked from the university. He was held at an Allied prison camp for three years but was never charged with any crime. Following his release he returned to the university and continued his work on the atlas, publishing the third volume in 1952. He died in 1955, shortly before the publication of a fourth volume. Thousands of copies of the atlas were sold across the world, and it was translated into five languages. It was only in the 1990s that students and academics really began questioning who the people in the atlas were. After the brutal history was revealed, the atlas went out of publication in 1994.

A Washington based nerve surgeon, Dr. Mackinnon says she feels uncomfortable with its origin, but that she could not do her job without it.

Rabbi Joseph Polak - a Holocaust survivor and professor of health law - believes the book is a "moral enigma" because it is derived from "real evil, but can be used in the service of good".

Dr. Jonathan Ives, a bioethics from the University of Bristol, agrees the atlas is "amazingly detailed" but says it is tainted by its "horrific past. If we are using it and reaping the benefits, it implies we are somehow complicit but you could also argue that in not using it, the atlas would be lost.”

And indeed a moral dilemma it is. Is it something good born out of evil or is it all evil?

WOW! I was just doing some research for a blog and stumbled across a meme I created years ago while Hillary Clinton was running for president. I had no idea it went viral including many posts on other peoples' blogs and in articles on news sites. It is even listed in several places as one of the best Hillary Clinton memes! WOW! Had no idea. I did know that other people created similar memes after I did this one, but this is the original I made. It came to mind the minute I saw her on TV in that orange jumpsuit. I like it better than the other ones anyway.

Let this be a reminder everything you post in forums or blogs is public so be careful if you don't want it stolen or used by others. In this case I'm elated! It got around. Will have to check on some of my other past memes now...

Finding a nice used vehicle for the twins. Being a car guy, can inspect and purchase right. Girls seem to love car. Has one of those AUX inputs---what the hell is that?!?! In proudly describing it to their mom, she hit me with a litany of reasonable negative cautionary statements, and I didn't react well. Pride comes before the fall, as tha Bard said. Girls gently mentioned that I could have been more diplomatic with mom. Apologized fortwith. Tail tucked firmly between legs. The art is long. Yesterday was a crazy Friday with lots of interruptions. I'll attribute this mostly due to the full moon. Expected afternoon rains had the streets flooded and everyone in the office cleared out before 5pm. A handful of guys in the warehouse were loading trucks for a Saturday delivery and they were gone by 8 pm. I stayed late finishing a bid promised out by the end of the day.

I usually don't play music while working, but all the calculations were done, the only thing needed was to write up the cost proposal and add those numbers from a spreadsheet.

Earlier in the week, a friend and I were talking about the original 1967 lineup of the British band Fleetwood Mac. I only knew the bassist John McVie as he played with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers featuring Eric Clapton. Side note - that album was iconic as every guitarist in my circle of musicians copied Clapton's licks!

We were able to call up a few old videos where singer Stevie Nicks was a backup singer to other artists work. Fleetwood Mac like so many other bands had members join for a short stay and leave, often to follow solo careers. In 1974, singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham was hired on the condition his girlfriend Stevie Nicks would be hired too!
That decision was the formula for musical success and through all the ego fights, affairs, divorces, solo projects and reunions, 30 years of 'what I call' Fleetwood Mac existed.

In April on 2018 Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood had a disagreement about contract for a tour and Buckingham was dismissed. Mike Campbell (who performed with Tom Petty) and Neil Finn (from Crowded House) were hired on and Fleetwood Mac was on the road again.

One of the awesome things about hiring successful musicians is they get to play their hit songs in the current bands lineup, adding another facet to the music.

69 year old rock legend Lindsey Buckingham was singer/guitarist for the band Fleetwood Mac from 1975 to 1987 and again from 1997 to 2018. Early in April 2018, Buckingham was fired from the group over performance material differences. He later filed suit with the band over this.

Buckingham who had toured as a solo act in the past had gone back on the road.

Early in February, Lindsey had emergency open heart surgery and as a result of the surgery suffered vocal cord damage. Reports are it's unknown if the damage is temporary.

At this time, all his concert dates have been cancelled.

During my browsing the internet through social media and somehow with dating sites , I've been astonished and extremely wondered how dare some men can Impersonates a woman character...showing love...deep affectionate personality, warm soft words with sexy pics!!! Just to cheat, deceive, bluff and steal money from men !! Is the ignobility has reached to this lowest level of ethics? Who gave you the right to rob or deceive the others? Beside many women got to adopt this track and they always targeted the Old Men......That's absolutely disgusting and really weird....of course there's many procedures could be made in case of worse..But I'm here blogging to warn people who not aware of such bad news people!

That's each of your children, grand children and any other living offspring. You think anything the government hands out is “free?” It’s not anything close to it. Everything they do costs twice as much as it would if done in the private sector and they spend like drunken sailors shoveling piles of debt onto your children and grandchildren as they go hoping you won’t notice until it’s too late. What do they care? It’s not their money they are spending… it’s YOURS.

That’s the amount owed by every citizen of the United States for all the “free” things that have already been handed out and promised by the federal government. It doesn’t count the additional free things that the Democrats are promising which will multiply that amount to around $9,000,000 for every man woman and child citizen of the United States. That’s right, EVERY man, woman and child will owe the federal government around NINE MILLION DOLLARS if the Democrats are elected and hand out all the “free” stuff they vow to hand out. And it also doesn’t count what you owe to state and local governments.

The Democrat’s platform is a bankrupt your children and grandchildren plan plain and simple.

Good luck, your kids already owe almost a half million dollars each that they are going to have to pay back in tax increases. Want to go for 9 million each instead? Vote Democrat.
