Jackson1862: Other countries need to stay out of our affairs. They are there and we are here. They do not pay taxes here and we pay taxes. They ( liberal europeans) like this bill because it will bring this country down to their level. It is my firm belief that many countries are jealous of the u.s and they want to see this place socialized like them so they will no longer have to envy us for our advantages.
I am going to be quite frank and i may make a lot of enemies by saying this but i am sick of all you liberal, leftwing, socialist europeans. First off stay concerned with your own country and quit trying to demand that we adopt your ways because if you all were so great many of us would have never chose to leave crapholes like England, Ireland and France etc.( i do not include Switzerland and Germany because there are some in these places that still have sense)

Two huge things wrong with that statement. No 1 is this is an International thread not an American thread. If you don't want the views of people from other countries then post on a US thread and NOT AN INTERNATIONAL thread!!!!!!
And an American asking others countries to stay out of their affairs is a bit rich considering all the US does is poke its nose into the affairs of other countries.

redkayak: One of the problems as SOME of us see it, is that it's not a national health care system like in most of the other countries. We will have additional taxes for sure just like the other countries and here's what I believe most foreigners do not understand, we will still have to BUY an insurance policy from a FOR profit company, mandated by the Federal Government or be financially penalized. While the people who have health care through their employer or can afford a private policy see this as a great thing as they will not have to supplement the ones without health insurance and should bring their premiums down, we all know that's serious longshot. Now, the 32 million that will now be covered, as the hype goes, will still have to PURCHASE an insurance policy with their own money, in addition to new taxes that will be needed to implement this atrocity or the Government will have to pay for them, like Medicare, unemployment compensation, etc. I for one have a probem with the government mandating that I must purchase a product from a FOR PROFIT company and I cannot choose any company I want, I can only buy a policy from an insurance company in Florida.
At long last, I have read ssomething that really highlights the problem or the potential problem with this new Healthcare System.
I, for one, was always led to believe...or maybe my OWN belief..was that you were going down the road like Europe and Canada where it is a nationalized scheme where you didn't need private health insurance, unless you wanted it to supplement the national scheme.

Well, Ivaski, it's hard to cross a divide when one is so strongly philosophically opposed to another's position, no?
When I characterize Obama as a prevaricator (he failed miserably at fulfilling virtually all of his campaign promises, for example) and someone whose political philosophy I find execrable (his reaffirmation of the Patriot Act and other of Bush's egregious policies make him Bush the Third as far as I can see), I don't believe I'm being negative or hateful - simply calling it like it is. I'm neither Republican nor Democrat - and powerfully disliked Bush (for the same reasons I dislike Obama) - so I'm not being partisan about him.
I guess I see nothing particularly positive about agreeing to or otherwise supporting policies that strike me as terrible. The "sickening negativity" that you believe has "blanketed our land" is really nothing more than the usual diversity of opinion. Some people - a lot of people - find the course this country's presently on to be sickening, and I think quite rightly so. That doesn't imply we lack positive views. That's like saying that opposing concentration camps or Roman coliseums is being "negative."
I would say that it's reasonable to ask that we not only criticize everything but also offer some positive solutions. I have plenty of those. But something tells me you wouldn't like them.

Well, it's hard to see how an olive branch can be meaningful if it rests essentially on one agreeing with you, IV.
What might be more meaningful would be to ask how we might best solve problems like healthcare and so on, and to be willing to entertain opposing ideas fairly and reasonably.

I believe Obama's been on the right track and has accomplished quite a bit ! But, unfortunately when someone such as yourself hates a president as much .....it's pointless to debate the issues and merely is interpretive like saying somethings grey or blue.
