I think people shouldn't ever give anyone any name that they wouldn't want the entire board to know.

You can't really trust others to know what your persoal security priorities might be.

For example, I have a nickname that I used as my handle on some boards in the past, but that nickname could easily be traced directly to me becuase I used in professionally in my music groups.

So as the world sank into its present violent, paranoid, "terror" mindset, I stopped using that nickname.

If I were you, I wouldn't intentionally reveal any name other than the one the person is using already on the board. But if it happens accidentally, it's not your fault. The person should not have told you a name without warning you that it was supposed to be kept secret.

i only give my real name to people that i feel comfortable giving it to and have had many conversations with, I would never post someones real name on a forum unless they do it themselves and personally i would probably be upset with someone if they posted my real name on a forum, because in truth if i wanted everyone to know my real name i would give it to them myself grin

JAN_is: When we are in private communication with people here they usually sign of their messages with their real name.

I sometimes wonder whether people mind when their names are then used in the forums. I rarely do so myself, just in case it would be a problem, but I have on occasion.

It´s not a problem for me personally, my profile name being my real name.

Any comments?

I only put the 123 on mine cos I didnt want to be conceited thinking I was the one and only laugh I havent read all the comments.......

Being dyslexic though, i have to say, I do have a terrible time of remembering two lots of names for people, its worse than having to remember left from right laugh Often, when I call somebody Hun or sweetie, its cos Im having probs putting two lots of names together - it really isnt easy being dyslexic you know..... its bloody hard work at times.... laugh

We never use our real names on a site like this and we change our location slightly. Everything is too public to reveal private information.

No Kizzy is my handle here I have divulged my real name to very few here I dont believe their is a need
On the forums we should be out psuedonyms
If we ourselves care to divulge our names that is one thing It is however another if someone else does it without consent .
respecting others privacy should be the same here as anywhere

It doesn't bother Me, one way or the other.. After all there are plenty of Tims around, and it's a part of My CS Name. I don't use other peoples real name though.

I think that when writing in a public forum, even though a comment might be aimed at a particular person, it is being said to everyone!! Therefore their CS name seems more apropriate so others don't feel excluded.

Most people who use My name write 10tim01(with a One and a zero) when actually it's l0tim0l (with an L and a zero)!!professor

tip hat
