cherryrae: all that is wanted is for the settlements to stop

Well prior to any settlements came the declaration that the destruction of Israel and complete murder of every Jew was the objective of the Palestinians. In various wars they attempted to realize this goal and, each time, the Israelis built defensive positions on land from which they were attacked.

And now, you figure that this land should be given to those who wish to destroy Israel without them even having the right to it as per UN Resolution 181 and, why? They have not intention of removing their hateful ideology, and, as we know, the peace is a state of ideology, not a bunch of trade offs.

RAMALLAH, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Israel intends to deport over 20,000 Palestinians out of Jerusalem whom it said don't have legal residency to stay in the city, a leading Palestinian human rights defender said on Sunday.

"Israeli Interior Ministry has already begun deporting Palestinians under the pretext that they stay in Jerusalem illegally," Ziad Hammouri, head of the Jerusalem center for social and economic rights (JCSER), told Xinhua.

The new procedure targets West Bank citizens who live in Jerusalem and possess property and ownerships even before Israel occupied the city in 1967, he said.

"It's an Israeli demographic war against the Arab presence in Jerusalem," Hammouri said.

The issue started two years ago when Israeli Interior Ministry asked the West Bank citizens who live with Jerusalemite wives in the holy city to apply for temporary residence permits, he added.

The Palestinians want the eastern part of Jerusalem as a future capital for their statehood, but Israeli leaders stress that the holy city cannot be divided. barf

Hamas leader says group will never recognize Israel
Reuters

By Nidal al-Mughrabi Nidal Al-mughrabi – 1 hr 47 mins ago

GAZA (Reuters) – A large crowd of Palestinians cheered a Hamas leader's pledge on Tuesday never to recognize Israel and celebrated the Islamist movement's 23rd anniversary at a Gaza rally punctuated by sonic booms from Israeli jets.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, whose group runs the Gaza Strip, said the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) headed by Western-backed President Mahmoud Abbas had made a "historic mistake" by recognizing Israel.

"We said it five years ago and we say it now ... we will never, we will never, we will never recognize Israel," Haniyeh told the gathering which some organizers said was attended by around 250,000 people.

Haniyeh had raised speculation last month about a change in Hamas's charter, which calls for Israel's destruction, by suggesting the group could accept a referendum on any peace treaty giving the Palestinians a state on land Israel captured in a 1967 war.

But he said such a truce would entail "no recognition of Israel and no concessions over any part of the land of Palestine."

In his speech, Haniyeh challenged critics and local surveys which said Hamas's popularity was in decline over poor governance in Gaza.

He voiced confidence that Hamas, which defeated Abbas's long-dominant Fatah movement in a 2006 election and seized the Gaza Strip in 2007 from forces loyal to the Palestinian leader, would win any future ballot.

Hamas Woos Gaza Arabs with Chocolates as Popularity Wanes

Hamas terrorists in Gaza have taken on different kinds of tasks in recent weeks. In addition to their usual job of enforcing Hamas rule and Islamic law, they have been busy sweeping streets, visiting schools, and even handing out chocolate in an attempt to win back popular support. The campaign was timed to begin weeks before the 23rd anniversary of the terrorist group's creation.

Leaders of the terrorist group denied that the campaign was a response to waning popularity. “We simply wanted to send a message that Hamas is still close to the street, despite being busy in power and politics,” official Ashraf Abu Daya told the Associated Press.

Daya was commenting on Hamas' decision to distribute chocolate to 300,00 families, with each box of candy accompanied by a note saying, “From Hamas with Love.” teddybear

The campaign appears to be geared at improving the image of Hamas' armed police forces in particular. Police officers have visited schools and mosques, while others have handed out candy and flowers to drivers.

Hamas' police have been in charge of enforcing increasingly harsh laws based in an extreme interpretation of Islamic law (Sharia).

A recent campaign to capture Gaza residents who help Israel fight terrorism has led to fear and mistrust as hundreds have been arrested, including doctors, intellectuals, and even members of Hamas; many of those arrested say they are innocent and claim confessions were extracted using torture.

'No to Recognition of Israel - Ever'
The main anniversary event, a massive rally honoring Hamas, was attended by senior Hamas members. The group's leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, addressed the crowd and pledged to never recognize Israel.

Haniyeh had suggested two weeks earlier that Hamas would accept a peace deal between Israel and the PA if the majority of Arabs who identify as “Palestinian” throughout the world accept it.

However, in his Tuesday speech, he clarified that Hamas aims to seize control of all territory between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean, including the entire state of Israel. Hamas may accept a deal with Israel in accordance with what founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin said, Haniyeh said, “Liberate what you can of the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem, and where it cannot be liberated, declare a truce.”

However, the truce proposed by Yassin does not mean acceptance of another state on the land. Haniyeh said, “We will cede none of [the land], and we will not recognize the so-called state of Israel.”

SilverBirch: Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd said Sunday that the Middle East peace process is facing a " difficult and challenging" stage.

In a joint press conference held in Amman with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh, Rudd stressed that the upcoming stage is one of difficult challenges, urging the Palestinians and the Israelis to resort to peace path and remove obstacles.

The Australian official expressed his country's support for efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East.

"We are looking forward to a peace process that will lead to the creation of an independent and viable Palestinian state that lives side by side with Israel," said Rudd, who was in Jordan on a Middle East tour.

He said Australia rejects the Israeli settlements as they represent an obstacle against the peace process."

Well well well. Someone else also believes that the settlements are an obstacle to Peace.

SilverBirch: Ok so lets see how this works. Israel beats down the indigenous Palestine rounds them up subjects them to collective punishment for 30 years and slaughters a thousand or so at a whack and then says "lets talk peace". However here's how its going to work.
We make the terms, which basically means you take what we offer or we'll continue to periodically liquidate you over time.
Here's the terms. We get all your land. You can stay in your little "concentration camps" as long you toe the line. But give us any provocation whatsoever and "bam" down comes the hammer.
So wuddoya think?
As any proud people would say, they say pound sand. So we're back to step one. The periodic purges and collective punishment seen as illegal under "international law" that Israel doesn't recognize. So more liquidation.
Sounds like what the United States did to the Indians over the last two plus hundred years. . . . Or your people have been doing to each other for the last three thousand !
