Surely, there must be some programming language that would eliminate a forum thread being brought back to the top of the heap, if the same person posted a comment twice (or more) in a row.

Currently, ANY comment by ANYONE brings a thread to the top, even if it is the same person...over and over and over... again.
This has been manipulated by several flooding offenders to the extreme extent.

Alternatively, automatic post blocking, so that the same commentor can't post twice in a row on the same forum thread would also be a (somewhat less favorable) solution.

Both have been done on some other sites, so I KNOW it is possible. cheers

Is it really such a problem? It doesn´t happen too often that someone keeps on commenting over and over just to bring the thread back up.

Sometimes people post a thread then for valid reasons are unable to respond immediately. I know many long standing members who go back into their thread some time later and respond to each individual comment made in their absence. I don´t see anything wrong with that, it´s just being polite.

In my opinion forum flooders are those who make several inane threads and rarely make more than one or two posts in them. It´s all the rest who keep these silly threads going on and on. laugh

Nah, no point in that. They'll just go and post in one of their alternate profiles instead laugh

Never noticed this to be a problem really.

As for post blocking, they have a similar thing on pof, you can only post once in every ten posts...wouldn't like to see anything like that on here.thumbs down

You've complained about this very same thing several times before, citing that people were doing it, (posting), deliberately to keep your threads from being on top.

You want the people at CS to change their whole thread-programmng to accommodate you now huh?

People tend to post in threads they like. The most popular ones being on top. That is how it is. Live with it!wine

Yes, it is

It doesn´t happen too often

yes, it does

that someone keeps on commenting over and over just to bring the thread back up.

Perhaps you are not paying attention. dunno

There is nothing wrong with responding to anyone. Just do it all with one post. I'm sure you are smart enough to figure out how to do this.

Why the hostility? dunno And responding to many people in one post, assuming you want to quote each one of them, is very cumbersome.

No, I am making a suggestion to improve the site for everyone, making it more equitable. Are you against fairness ?

Gingerbe:

How could you possibly confuse popularity with the same person(s) posting over & over & over again in a row on the same thread ???
Popularity MIGHT be better defined by the number of unique individuals who respond, but even that definition falls short.
Your statement is illogical and misleading.

Ron_de_Jeremy: Why the hostility? And responding to many people in one post, assuming you want to quote each one of them, is very cumbersome.

I'm not the least bit hostile. I haven't called anyone any names or said anything hostile. I am only making a suggestion to make things better for everyone here (except the flooders).

If this change (2X or more postings not bringing the thread to the top of the pile), it would not prohibit anyone from posting over & over again. It just wouldn't bring it to the top with each post. That's all.

Keep your hair on! No need to embolden and add a sarcastic quip. I thought I responded politely to you, after all you were asking for opinions weren´t you?

Sorry to say, but your suggestion hasn´t won the majority vote so far, and I´m even sorrier that I´ve just bumped your thread back up to the top.

I suggest you read ALL the responses instead of jumoing in on mine so rudely.

For heaven's sake..
A man simply makes a thread on ways he feels could improve the forum..and along come the "have to be right" brigade.

If no one thinks the suggestions are purposeful then so be it...no need to be rude about it.
